Deal! Petr Cech completes £11m transfer from Chelsea to Arsenal

Petr Cech

The Czech Republic international has been linked with a move to the Gunners since the end of the season and the Daily Mail understand the transfer has gone through.

Cech lost his place as Chelsea's number one to Thibaut Courtois at the start of last season and told owner Roman Abramovich and manager Jose Mourinho he wanted to leave for first-team football.

The deal will be Arsenal's first of the summer and Arsene Wenger will hope 33-year-old will bring quality and experience to his side.

And his first match for Arsenal could be against the Blues in the Community Shield on August 2.

The arrival of Cech at the Emirates is likely to see either Wojciech Szczesny or David Ospina, who has been linked with Turkish side Fenerbahce, leave the club.

Earlier today, Chelsea captain John Terry claimed Cech, who spent 11 years with the Blues and won 13 major trophies, could win Arsenal 15 points if he joined them and understood his reasons for leaving Stamford Bridge.

He told talkSPORT: "There’s talk of Arsenal signing Petr Cech and, if they do get him, he will strengthen them for sure. He will save them 12 or 15 points a season.

"Petr was an unbelievable professional last year. When you get left out of the team it can be hard to accept but, when he came in [to the side], he was exceptional.

"He deserves a lot of credit for that. We understand he wants to play first-team football but nobody wants to see him leave the club.

"He’s going to be sorely missed and will improve any side he goes to."

Louis van Gaal warned AGAINST swap deal for Sergio Ramos by Chelsea and Man Utd legend

Sergio Ramos

The Spain defender is reportedly looking for a new club this summer after Real Madrid refused to meet his £10million-a-season wage demands.

According to reports, United are keen to use David De Gea's move imminent move to Real to their advantage by proposing a straight swap deal with the goalkeeper and Ramos.

However, while Wilkins admires Ramos' versatility, he has his doubts over the 29-year-old's poor disciplinary record.

Sergio Ramos is a red card walking

Ray Wilkins

"Manchester United will want something back from Real Madrid if they let David De Gea leave," Wilkins told talkSPORT. "Sergio Ramos has been around the block and he knows the score, especially in Champions League.

"He’s a red card walking, though. He gets het-up when things don’t quite go his way.

"Madrid have played him at full-back and as a holding midfield player, he’s very versatile."

Liverpool beat Man City and Borussia Dortmund to land new 'Rio Ferdinand' Joe Gomez

Joe Gomez

Joe Gomez moved to Anfield after playing only 24 Championship games for Charlton last season.

The England U19 international, who can play at either full back or central defence, finally completed a dramatic rise to Premier League stardom after being drafted into Charlton's U18 squad when he was only 13.

Arsenal's Hector Bellerin thanks Chelsea star Cesc Fabregas for making move happen

Hector Bellerin GETTY

Hector Bellerin says Cesc Fabregas was pivotal in his move to Arsenal

The 20-year-old left Barcelona's academy in 2011 to join the north London club - a move identical to the one made as a youngster.

And Bellerin admits it was Fabregas' rise into the Arsenal first team that inspired him to make the switch.

He said: "Cesc was a big inspiration. To see someone who made the same move and success, for me it was very important to see that happen.

"It was an important move for me, moving away from my family and friends and my city.

"But to see someone has succeeded as I said was really important and he showed that if you work hard, if you want it enough, you will always have a chance."

And that chance has been duly taken by , who snapped up the right-back position following an injury to Mathieu Debuchy.

The Spain under21 international made 20 Premier League appearances for the Gunners last season and has certainly given Arsene Wenger a selection headache ahead of the new season.

And he admits, whilst it's going to be tough, he want to hold on to a place in the starting XI.

He told magazine: "I know it is going to be really hard because Debuchy's back and I don't know whether Carl [Jenkinson] is going to be back so it is definitely going to be challenge.

"But, as I say, at the beginning of last season I thought my season was going to be totally different to what it was so when you ask me how I think it is going to be, I simply don't know. All I will do is work hard and try to cement my place in the starting XI."

John Scales: Why Chelsea NOT Man Utd or Arsenal will be the team to beat next season

That is according to former Kop star John Scales.

The Blues romped to the title last term and it was their first Premier League crown in five years.

Santi Cazorla REVEALS Arsenal's strategy to finish ahead of Man Utd and Chelsea

The Gunners lifted the FA Cup last season, but the Premier League title has eluded them since 2004.

Barcelona cleaned up last season on the silverware front, winning the treble.

And Cazorla thinks Barcelona are the benchmark for teams like Arsenal.

"If Arsenal can in the future reach the level of Barcelona, that's the goal,” Cazorla told news outlet Goal.

Cazorla also defended the credibility of the Premier League, and maintains it is not weaker than La Liga, despite Barcelona's Champions League triumph.

“The main difference is that in Spain there are Barcelona and Real Madrid, the greatest clubs.

“But the Premier League is more open, more fun for the spectator.

"I couldn't choose one which is the best. In Spain, football is more tactical. Here, there are more spaces and the play is more open.

“I don't think that Premier League is worse because Barcelona have won the Champions League.

Liberian FA chairman Musa Bility to run for FIFA presidency

Former Brazil star Zico has already declared his interest in running in the election, which is expected to be held between December and February.

Candidates must be nominated by at least five of the 209 FIFA member associations to get on the ballot.

"Africa is the largest voting bloc in FIFA (with 54 members), and we must take the lead to bring football together," .

"If Africa does not put up a candidate, it says a lot about us. It shows a sense of mediocrity, and that our only relevance is to vote and make leaders. I think that is not right."

Bility would be the first African candidate for FIFA's top job since Confederation of African Football President Issa Hayatou lost to Blatter in 2002.

"We all agree in the world that football is facing a difficult moment, and it is in difficult moments that great leaders emerge," Bility said.

WATCH: Thierry Henry hopes Arsenal 'annoy' champions Chelsea next season

Arsenal finished third in the league last term, 12 points off champions Chelsea and four behind second-place Manchester City.

They successfully defended the FA Cup last month to gloss over a season in which they crashed out of the League Cup and fell in the last-16 stage of the Champions League.

And club legend Henry believes his former boss Arsene Wenger must build a momentum in his squad from day one of the next campaign.

"But the fact that we won the Cup twice in a row, I hope we can advance on this basis, be consistent. That has to be key next year."

Jack Wilshere reveals Paul Gascoigne film 'inspired' his sensational double in Slovenia

The Arsenal midfielder had not managed to score in any of his first 27 appearances for the senior side - the last time he netted with the Three Lions on his shirt was when he was an Under-17 international.

But Wilshere picked Paul Gascoigne's newly-released biopic to watch on the plane out to Ljubljana and was inspired by the risk-taking Gazza was prepared to take despite the intense pressure on England players whenever they perform.

As a result, he felt more driven by his simple love of football than burdened by the weight of a nation's expectations.

"I watched the film on the plane and yeah it did inspire me a bit," Wilshere said. "You could tell by the way he was going out and playing for England, he didn't feel any fear. He was over that.

"Sometimes when they play for their country players feel a little bit of fear and a bit of pressure. He just wanted to go out there.

"He said he felt at his best when he was playing, with the ball at his feet. You do sometimes feel like that. He did it and he was England's best player. So it's worth a try."

Wilshere's reaction to his first England senior goal was strangely muted, but he explained why afterwards.

Jack Wilshere admits the Gazza movie inspired him ahead of the game

"When the first one went in, I didn't want to celebrate," he said. "I was telling Wazza to get the ball. But the second one was a good felling, you know. It put us in the lead.

"Especially with England, you work for that kind of moment. When you're younger, you dream of playing for England. So the first goal felt great because playing for your country is great, but when you score, that's a special feeling.

"Now I hope there will be more. I've been open about it and saying for club and country I know I haven't scored enough. I get into good positions but haven't scored.

"It wasn't preying on my mind. The only reason I was bothered was because you look at your stats and it says 28 games and no goals. Apart from that, you don't think about it. But it is nice now I am off the mark."

Slovenia 2 - England 3: Rooney to the rescue for Roy after spectacular Wilshere double

Jack Wilshere

If the elder statesman in Wayne Rooney who ultimately ensured England’s pristine qualifying record remains intact, then it was the new guard, encapsulated by Wilshere’s swagger and sharp shooting, which quickened the pulse.

There have been so many false dawns in his international career, so many injuries checking progress, that the midfielder’s performance here highlighted what the country has missed as much as what it can look forward to.

Roy Hodgson will hope the muggy evening in the raucous Stozice Stadium when Wilshere’s stamped his personality all over proceedings, not just with two strikes from distance but with the intelligence of his passing, represents a turning point. This was a curious mix from England, who in navigating a season unbeaten for the first time since 1990-91 contrived to make life far harder for themselves than it should have been. Given the gilt-edged chances Rooney had earlier spurned, there should have been no real expectation when the ball fell one final time with time running out of a vastly different outcome.

Yet while the cool finish dispatched beyond Samir Handanovic was out of keeping with much of what had the striker had produced before, it succeeded in propelling the country all the closer to Euro 2016.

In doing so, Rooney also moves level with Gary Lineker on 48 international goals and now lies just one behind all-time leading scorer Sir Bobby Charlton. The turkey shoot against San Marino in September will see him over the line.

Set against the three points England gleefully gleaned from a see-saw contest which pummelled the senses, where the draw with the Republic a week ago had numbed them, Rooney will hardly mind he is not already setting the standard.

Wayne Rooney

Indeed, Hodgson should have departed Ljubljana more concerned about the lack of control exerted by his defence which required Wilshere to grab the game by the scruff and turn it into his team-mates’ favour.

A year to the day since England’s defensive inadequacies were exposed in the jungle of Manaus against Italy, the way in which Slovenia were able to land not one, but two, jabs brought into stark perspective all the talk of huge strides since the World Cup.

England were an utter shambles for Milivoje Novakovic’s opening goal, unravelling after Phil Jones inexplicably gifted possession with a throw-in adjacent to the host’s penalty area, and not much better for substitute Nejc Pecnik’s 84t minute header which looked set to deny Hodgson a sixth successive victory in Group E.

There is no need to wait until November’s heavyweight friendly matches before concluding there is plenty of improvement still to do.

To witness such a basic mistake from Jones result in the breakthrough rang ridiculous. Novakovic linked with Josip Ilicic and, with Fabian Delph and Kieran Gibbs drawn to the midfielder, he then slipped a return pass into acres of space with Gary Cahill playing offside and Chris Smalling deciding not to track the runner.

Had Smalling done so, he might well have caught the 36-year-old. Instead, Novakovic had all the time to pick his spot beyond the exposed Joe Hart to conjure the first goal an opposing player has scored against England in the group.

It was a nonsense England trailed at the interval given their dominance. Raheem Sterling had lifted a lob over Handanovic, but also the crossbar, to waste a glorious opening inside four minutes, before Rooney saw one shot expertly saved. Still, a sense of anxiety was building on the England bench until Wilshere took it upon himself to seize the moment and reveal himself as the most likely candidate to fill the void created by the retirements of Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard.

Adam Lallana had been introduced for the injured Jones at the break, Jordan Henderson moving to right-back rather than Nathaniel Clyne being brought out, and was influential in the equaliser as a tackle from Bostjan Cesar diverted the ball to edge of the area.

A rising left-footed shot was lashed home by Wilshere who celebrated wildly, blissfully unaware he was soon to better the effort after Rooney had spurned close range openings created by Sterling and Andros Townsend.

Henderson’s pass in-field was touched by Lallana into the path of Wilshere, whose swerving strike from 20-yards was even sweeter and fizzed beyond Handanovic in a blur. The moment should have signalled the visitors closing the game out. Yet Bojan Jokic was allowed to cross too easily from the left and Pecnik then out-jumped Gibbs to beat Hart.

That the celebrations had barely died down when Jokic inadvertently registered another assist, this time unwanted, when diverting a pass intended for substitute Theo Walcott into Rooney’s path allowed England to wriggle off the hook.

Thanks in no small part to Wilshere, their record remains perfect.

"If I can do that, great. If not, I'll look to get out on loan somewhere. It's a dream come true to be at a club like Arsenal and I want to get into the first team this season, play minutes and start matches.

"I have high expectations of myself and if I was to be starting week in, week out, I wouldn't be surprised."

EXCLUSIVE: Arsenal and Real Madrid join Man City in race for Liverpool's Raheem Sterling

Sunday Express Sport revealed that Liverpool’s owners are prepared to sell the England forward providing any interested party comes up with an offer of £50 million.

Manchester City have opened the bidding with a straight offer of £25 million with a further £5 million in various add ons.

That has been instantly rejected by Liverpool who will hold firm for what they want in the knowledge that they held firm and finally squeezed £75 million from Barcelona last summer for Luis Suarez.

They also know that former Anfield boss Rafa Benitez who brought a young Sterling to Merseyside from QPR has indicated he is interested in taking the 20-year-old to the Bernabeu as one of his first signings.

Liverpool are expecting the first official move from the Spanish giants in the next few days while Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is a confirmed admirer of the winger.

While Wenger publicly cries poverty - that Arsenal won’t play ball in the inflated transfer market – Liverpool are aware that the Gunners are watching every move and will enter the bidding.

The race to sign Raheem Sterling is set to intensify

They also believe that the player would love to return to London and that the Emirates is his preferred destination.

But City still remain the favourites to sign Sterling because with chairman Khaldoon al Mubarak’s declaration of intent to spend big on “high quality individuals” they are prepared to go the extra mile in any bidding war.

It will mean them having to go close to £50 million to claim their man while Wolfsburg’s Kevin de Bruyne is edging closer to a £35 million move to the Etihad Stadium.

Juventus are playing hard ball over former Manchester United youngster Paul Pogba, seen by City as the long term replacement for Yaya Toure. The Italian champions are demanding £75 million for the midfielder, a figure even City aren’t prepared to pay.

Man United confirm interest in Tottenham star Harry Kane and plot £40m swoop

Kane, 21, enjoyed a breakthrough season with Spurs, scoring 21 Premier League goals, and United manager Louis van Gaal is keen to add to his forward options.

Radamel Falcao's loan from Monaco was not extended after a disappointing campaign, while Robin van Persie's future is also unclear.

A senior United figure said Kane is "someone we are interested in" but added that no approach had yet been made to Tottenham.

Kane signed a five-year contract in February at White Hart Lane, where chairman Daniel Levy has a reputation for driving a hard bargain.

Any negotiations will bring into focus the role of Ed Woodward, United's executive vice-chairman.

He has earned wide-ranging praise for his role in increasing the club's commercial success but was criticised two summers ago as United were deemed to have missed out on a number of high-profile targets when David Moyes was manager.

Manchester United have confirmed their interest in Tottenham star Harry Kane

The offer of Champions League football next season will undoubtedly help in his pursuit of Kane, who leaves this weekend for England Under-21s' European Championships campaign in the Czech Republic with praise heaped on him by manager Gareth Southgate.

"He wants to keep improving, there are still more and more challenges ahead," said Southgate. "He has established himself as a Premier League player but Harry is the type to think, 'What's next?' He will want to push the team into Champions League football.

"He won't be just about what it means individually. He wants the team to succeed. He has been very big on that when we have been together."

United formally completed the signing of Netherlands winger Memphis Depay from PSV Eindhoven for £25m yesterday on a four-year contract

The 21-year-old said is linked up with Van Gaal, who gave him his Netherlands debut in 2013, once more, and said: "He's the best trainer in the world. He makes me better on the training ground and that's very important for me, so I'm very much looking forward to working with him.

"I'm going to let my feet speak. I hope I can develop here in the Premier League and I hope I can be like some of those great legends. I believe I can be a great player for Manchester United."

Van Gaal is also exploring the possibility of recruiting Brazil forward Roberto Firmino from Hoffenheim.

Firmino was among the stand-out players in the Bundesliga last season but his club are resigned to losing the 23-year-old after finishing eighth and missing out on European football.

His agent, Roger Wittmann, claims United are among a number of clubs interested but Hoffenheim say no approach has been made for the forward, who has scored three goals in six matches for his country.

Club spokesman Christian Frommert said: "There are a lot of rumours for more than half a year about Roberto Firmino and his future but at this time there is no news concerning a transfer."

Arsenal ace Jack Wilshere pledges Gunners future amid talk of Manchester City move

City, fresh from having a bid worth £30m rejected for Liverpool's Raheem Sterling, have placed Wilshere on their transfer wishlist as they target the best English talent.

Manager Manuel Pellegrini's squad is short on home-grown players having seen the likes of Frank Lampard, James Milner and Scott Sinclair leave.

Wilshere's qualities in midfield add to his attractiveness, but the England star maintains he wants to remain at The Emirates and forge the next phase of his career under Arsene Wenger.

"I definitely wouldn't go somewhere just because I'm a home-grown player. I'd want to be wanted by a club," said Wilshere, who will be in England's line up to face Slovenia in the Euro 2016 qualifier in Ljubljana tomorrow.

"I want to be wanted by Arsenal. I've grown up at Arsenal, I'm a home-grown player, and as long as Arsenal want me, then I'm happy."

There is an onus on Wenger to ensure Wilshere feels wanted, although with three years remaining on his contract it is unlikely to take the form of a new deal.

Jack Wilshere has pledged his future to Arsenal

Wilshere's campaign has been interrupted by injury once more and he will spend the summer adhering to a specially devised fitness programme from Arsenal to try to ensure he hits the ground running in August.

"You look at players like Santi Cazorla who've had 55 games this season and who needs to go away and put their feet up," he added. "I will probably have a week off and then get back to training, back to the gym, back to jogging.

"After the game on Sunday I will go away with the kids, have a week off, and then when I come back I might even go into Arsenal for a few days, train there. And then have another holiday somewhere, but still hit the gym every day.

"I don't want the season to end because my fitness levels are still on the way up. I've only been back three months so I'll have to be sensible this summer."

Arsenal face FA fine after breaching agent rules in signing Calum Chambers from Saints

The FA have launched an investigation into the deal which took place in July last year after a complaint from a third party. Agent Alan Middleton has also been charged.

It is understood the complaint relates to the fee that was paid as part of the deal to the agent.

At the time there were no issues between the two clubs over the deal, and it is understood there is no suggestion of any wrongdoing by the player.

Middleton has until next Wednesday to respond to the charge, but Arsenal have requested further time and must respond by June 26.

The club said in a statement: "We have acted in good faith throughout with regard to this transfer.

"We are considering our position and will make appropriate representations to the FA."

Arsenal have been charged after breaching agent rules in the transfer of Calum Chambers

Gunners manager Arsene Wenger said in February, when questions first arose about the deal: "I am very happy about his transfer. I made over 350 transfers since I am here.

"We have a lot of enquiries about them and we never had any problem."

Arsenal are expected to face a fine or a warning if the case is proven by an FA Regulatory Commission, and an agent can also be fined or warned and even banned.

Chambers, 20, won his first senior England cap against Norway in September 2014 and is in the Under-21 squad for the European Championships, which begin in the Czech Republic next week.

ZOUMA - Would you let him leave on loan next season

Sampdoria president Massimo Ferrero openly admitted he is "trying to get Kurt Zouma" this summer as he looks to strengthen the physical presence of his team. I ask Chelsea fan read this if you think you should consider letting him go on loan?

Zouma impressed everyone with his performance in defense and, surprisingly, also in the role of defensive midfielder (just ask Marouane Fellaini) this season. He answered the call and made a real name for himself with fans taking to heart.

However, at least for next season (and I would have to believe that this is the case of JT signing a new contract for one year) Zouma would have to settle for a place on the bench behind Gary Cahill and new JT as They seem the preferred choice of Jose Mourinho.

So where does that leave Zouma? It would be used in the same way next season by the manager and introduced to the side to play a key role in the games That's enough to Zouma when you have to play regularly to help in its development?

Besides the interest of the president of Sampdoria. Good talk recently, Massimo Ferrero revealed that he intended to appoint the legendary goalkeeper Walter Zenga as their new manager following the departure of Sinisa Mihajlovic and affected Zouma main objective.

His particular interest is as it seems and Sampdoria would be able to offer regular first Zouma football team in what will be a season with major European leagues all to come next year.

Players must be playing football regularly if they want to be considered for the tournament and I can not see that Zouma settle for the same stage this time at Chelsea.

Personally, I let myself go for a loan, because we cover defense season. Branislav Ivanovic defender Cesar Azpilicueta can play with the movement of the right side. Filipe Luis, if I could not still play left back or if the reports are correct, they could sign of Toby Alderweireld athletic and can play on the left or in the middle of the back.

What do you think we should do about Zouma Let him go on loan or play much next season at Chelsea? If so, it is instead of the band

Newcastle fans URGE new boss Steve McClaren to 'fix' their broken club

Steve McClaren has been urged by Newcastle fans to fix the club

Club directors opted not to hold a press conference for McClaren’s unveiling, limiting access to just two preferred media outlets.

The own goal did not go down well with the Toon Army, who were quick to scoff at the club’s claim of a new era following last season’s brush with relegation and owner Mike Ashley’s pledge to “win things”.

And last night, a leading member of the Fans’ Forum, set up by the club itself to improve communications between the hierarchy and supporters, issued an invitation to McClaren to attend the next meeting, now he is on the board of directors.

Steve Hastie of NUFC Fans United, believes the new head coach can lead by example and turn up at their next meeting, scheduled for the next fortnight.

“Newcastle is a broken club and a lot of work is required for it to be repaired. We’ve all been fed the line about a fresh start but there’s not been too much evidence of that,” said Hastie.

“What’s needed is action rather than words and Steve McClaren can help by coming along and talking to us.

“Club directors have regularly attended in the past and now that he is a director himself, he should attend.”

Wojciech Szczesny: Why I LOVE watching Arsenal team-mate Mesut Ozil

Since joining the Gunners for £42m in 2013, Ozil's performances have gone through peaks and troughs.

But after his return from a knee injury last season, the German was an instrumental figure for his side and played a key role as they retained their FA Cup trophy with victory over Aston Villa.

And Szczesny revealed his admiration for Ozil and the special view he has when the 26-year-old is playing.

The Polish goalkeeper told Arsenal Player: "It’s his calmness and his vision on the pitch is something that you don’t get to see when you watch 90 minutes of football.

"Sometimes you’re out there training with Mesut and he just comes out with some ridiculous passes.

Mesut Ozil is living up to his £42m price tag

"I’m back there and see the whole pitch so I should be able to see all the passes but what he does is just different class. I really admire Mesut, love watching him and training with him out on the training pitch.

"With all the players fit, he’s had more chances to play with top-quality players.

"Also with the likes of Theo coming back and Alexis signing, he’s had more chances to play balls through the defence and cut teams open. He’s had a chance to play with fantastic players and it obviously makes him better as well."
