Arsene Wenger named an unchanged team for this crucial FA Cup semi-final with Manchester City. That meant a couple of key players on the bench and a new-look formation being tested by one of the best sides in the country.

There were some teething problems with the 3-4-3 formation as City looked to press high up the pitch. Some of the Arsenal players were shown to be arguing on the pitch as they were clearly a little unsure how to handle things. Fortunately, City didn’t really know either.

Arsenal grew into the match and had the ball in the net just before the 25-minute mark. Olivier Giroud headed one through for Laurent Koscielny who found the far corner but the Frenchman’s effort was rightly ruled offside.

City had their own goal ruled out later in the match after the referee claimed the ball had gone out of play. A couple of Arsenal players stopped at the whistle’s call but City played on and got the ball in the net. Replays showed the the ball didn’t quite go out completely and that was the high point of drama during a subdued first half.

The second half started much like the first. A closed off game which was in desperate need of a goal and it eventually came for Manchester City. A couple of basic mistakes from Arsenal and Guardiola’s men made them pay. Aaron Ramsey gave the ball away high up the field and City played a long pass for Sergio Aguero who was the wrong side of Nacho Monreal. Aguero broke clear and made it 1-0, chipping the ball delicately over an onrushing Petr Cech.

It didn’t stay that way for long. Less than ten minutes later and the Gunners were equal. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain played in a fantastic cross to find Nacho Monreal on the end of a marauding run from Nacho Monreal. The Spanish full-back hit it past Claudio Bravo with his right foot to make it 1-1.

City hit back and saw two efforts hit the woodwork. Fernandinho climbed highest from a corner and hit the bar just a few minutes after Petr Cech made the save of the match to tip Yaya Toure’s volley onto his post. The Gunners had a few chances of their own before the end of 90 minutes. Danny Welbeck came closest but his shot just spun past the far post.

In extra time, the Gunners started taking command. City looked tired and Arsenal started to capitalise. Rob Holding came close from a header before the Gunners did take the lead. A ball in the box and Danny Welbeck’s skewed shot fell to the feet of Alexis Sanchez. The Chilean effortlessly cut inside one City defender and found the back of the net from close range.

The Gunners saw the game out after that. Francis Coquelin was brought and barring a few fruitless counter-attacks, Arsenal were comfortable and reached a historic 20th FA Cup final.

Here’s how we’ve rated the Arsenal players:

GK) Petr Cech – 7

He did what was expected but he had a very quite match on the whole. Petr Cech made a couple of decent saves and could do very little about Sergio Aguero’s goal.

RCB) Gabriel Paulista – 9

This was probably Gabriel Paulista’s best performance for Arsenal. The Brazilian was dominant at the back and looked more comfortable in this new-look formation. He was solid in the air and did brilliantly well when left one on one with City’s nimble attackers.

CB) Laurent Koscielny – 8

A solid defensive performance on the whole. Laurent Koscielny kept City quiet for large spells of the game despite their impressive front line.

LCB) Rob Holding – 9

An excellent performance from Rob Holding. For such a young player, he didn’t look out of place in a team playing in an FA Cup semi-final and nearly found the back of the net with a header from a corner. He dominated in the tackle and was very impressive on the ball too.

Lucas Perez’s Agent Plays Down Arsenal Exit Talk

Lucas Perez’s agent has played down speculation the forward is keen to leave Arsenal this summer and insists he had not held talks over a move away.

Recent reports have claimed the 28-year-old could return to former side Deportivo at the end of the season after struggling for game time at the Emirates.

Perez has made just two Premier League starts this season and has frequently been overlooked by Arsene Wenger despite impressing when he had been handed a rare chance in the first team.

The forward is reportedly keen for regular __football as he believes he can break into the Spain squad for World Cup 2018 but his agent says a move is not on the agenda currently.

“It’s not true and we haven’t been talking with anyone,” Rodrigo Fernandez Lovelle told Goal.

“Lucas has three years left on his contract with Arsenal.

“In the summer when the season is finished we can talk but right now we are only thinking about Arsenal.”

If he does stay at Arsenal it’s difficult to see Perez playing regularly, particularly if Wenger and Sanchez stay at the club, with Olivier Giroud and Danny Welbeck also options up front.

Perez has also been linked with a move to West Ham and it would be huge shame to see him leave the Gunners after just one season, although few fans would surely begrudge him a move seeing as he has featured so rarely this season.

Sanchez Is Staying & Will Not Be Sold To A Premier League Rival, Says Wenger

Arsene Wenger says Alexis Sanchez will be at Arsenal next season even if does not sign a contract extension and has ruled out selling the Chilean to a Premier League rival.

There has been huge speculation over the forward’s future with Chelsea, Manchester City, PSG and Bayern Munich all rumoured to be interested in signing him.

However, Wenger is adamant the 28-year-old will be at the club next season and has ruled out a move to Chelsea or City.

“If he doesn’t sign a new deal, will I make him stay? Yes,” Wenger said via The Guardian. “Would I rather keep him than sell him to a Premier League rival? Yes. I don’t think you would sell him to any Premier League club, that is for sure.

“Why not? The question is more why would you sell him to another Premier League club? You want to be as strong as you can be and not strengthen the other teams.”

Wenger also insisted he was confident Sanchez would sign a new deal, claiming he is happy at the club and has shown a desire to remain in north London.

“I think he will sign and stay because, first of all, he is happy here,” he added. “His desire is to stay. That is what I deeply believe. The disagreements are purely contractual – not on the desire. Both parties have the desire to find an agreement, so I think it will happen.”

Wenger’s comments are great to hear and fans will be hoping the club can now persuade Sanchez to finally put pen to paper and commit his future to the Gunners.

Wenger Doesn’t Regret Missing Out On Signing Jamie Vardy Last Summer

Arsene Wenger has said he does not regret missing out on signing Leicester forward Jamie Vardy during last summer’s transfer window. The Gunners reportedly triggered the Englishman’s release clause but Vardy elected to stay at the King Power Stadium (via Arsenal.com).

Tomorrow’s match at the Emirates Stadium would have a very different feel had Jamie Vardy signed for the Gunners last summer.

If reports are to be believed then a transfer for the 30-year-old was actually very close to being agreed but that Vardy himself decided to turn down the move.

Arsene Wenger was asked if he regrets not signing the Leicester man during his pre-match press conference but dismissed the idea.

“No, we are in a job where we have to accept the decisions of the players,” Wenger told the media.

“No, we did all we could [to sign him].”

The move for Vardy happened before Alexis Sanchez had made the successful transition to the centre-forward position. The Gunners were also without the injured Danny Welbeck and decided to sign Lucas Perez instead.

The Gunners have far more options up front now than they did last summer and Wenger was asked whether Vardy would have been the number one forward at the Emirates.

“No, he’d have been one of the strikers we have available,” Wenger went on. “You can’t guarantee a place at a club like Arsenal.”

So, there isn’t a great deal of regret from Wenger about the failed Jamie Vardy transfer. The Leicester man scored 24 Premier League goals last season but has managed just 11 in the league this term. Had the Gunners signed the Leicester man then Alexis Sanchez wouldn’t have made the transition to a central striker and probably wouldn’t have got as many goals as he has so far. In that sense, the Gunners were fortunate to not land Vardy.

Wenger Uses New Formation And Drops Key Stars – Arsenal v Manchester City [Predicted Lineups]

Arsenal take on Manchester City at Wembley with an FA Cup final place on offer for the winner. Here’s how we think the Gunners will line up.

—–
Matchday: Team News – Predicted Lineup – Match Highlights
Match: Arsenal v Manchester City
Stadium: Wembley Stadium
Kick-Off (GMT): Sun 23 April 15:00
—–

Here’s how we think Arsenal will line up:

GK) Petr Cech

Petr Cech should keep his place in goals. David Ospina has played in cup competitions this season but the Colombian is expected to miss the match.

RB) Hector Bellerin

After being dropped to the bench last Monday, we predict a start for Hector Bellerin. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain took the right wing-back position against Middlesbrough but Bellerin is more suited to the right-back position in this formation.

CB) Laurent Koscielny

Laurent Koscielny will undoubtedly start. The Frenchman has only just recovered from injury but should be fit enough to play.

CB) Gabriel Paulista

With Shkodran Mustafi set to miss the match with an injury, we think Gabriel Paulista will get the starting spot in defence. Rob Holding put in a good performance on Monday but Wenger should be persuaded by Gabriel’s experience.

LB) Nacho Monreal

Nacho Monreal will undoubtedly keep his place at left-back. It was slightly surprising to see the Spaniard named ahead of the more forward-thinking Kieran Gibbs at wing-back against Middlesbrough. However, that could be an indication of what could happen next season with a new left-back rumoured to be coming in.

Arsenal To Offer Oxlade-Chamberlain New £100,000-Per-Week Deal

Arsenal are ready to offer Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain a new deal worth £100,000-per-week to stay at the club, according to The Mirror.

The midfielder’s current contract expires next summer but Arsenal want to begin talks over an extension next week.

Arsene Wenger has insisted recently he is desperate to keep the former Southampton man at the club after reported interest from both Liverpool and Manchester United.

The boss has warned of “big damage” if Oxlade-Chamberlain were allowed to leave and claims he wants him to stay at Arsenal for the next 10 years.

The 23-year-old admitted at the start of the season he could be tempted to leave if he were unable to secure regular __football at the Emirates this season.

However, he has had a growing influence in recent months and has arguably been one of the club’s most impressive and consistent performers in recent weeks.

Oxlade-Chamberlain’s versatility has also proven useful with the England international having played in central midfield as well as at wing-back for Arsenal recently.

The report states that Arsenal are determined to keep hold of him and are willing to give him a significant pay rise in a bid to keep him at the club and stave off interest from elsewhere.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has made 41 appearances for Arsenal this season but only 23 starts, in all competitions, and it remains to be seen if that is enough __football to entice him to stay at Arsenal.

Wenger continues to speak highly of him, although if everyone is fit, he’s unlikely to be an automatic first choice, which makes the boss’ words and the huge new contract a little confusing.

Wenger Drops Four Key Players With North London Derby Just Four Days Away – Arsenal v Leicester [Predicted Lineup]

Arsenal are back in action in the Premier League this evening, taking on current champions and now potential relegation candidates, Leicester City.

Matchday: Team News – Predicted Lineup – Match Highlights
Match: Arsenal v Leicester City
Stadium: Emirates Stadium
Kick-Off (GMT): Wed 26 April 19:45

Here’s how we think Arsenal will line up:

GK) Petr Cech

Petr Cech will undoubtedly start. With David Ospina on the sidelines the Czech stopper doesn’t have much in the way of competition.

RCB) Gabriel Paulista

We think Arsene Wenger will stick with the same 3-4-3 formation meaning another start for Gabriel Paulista. The Brazilian played perhaps his best game for Arsenal in the FA Cup semi-final win over Manchester City and will be looking for more of the same.

CB) Laurent Koscielny

Laurent Koscielny will start and captain the side in the middle of what we predict will be a three-man defence.

LCB) Rob Holding

The 3-4-3 formation allows room for Rob Holding to start at the back. The Englishman put in an excellent performance against Manchester City and will be looking for more of the same.

Bayern Munich Watch Alexis Sanchez Against Manchester City

Bayern Munich representatives were at Wembley on Sunday to watch Alexis Sanchez in action with the German giants considering a move for the Chilean, according to The Mirror.

Sanchez was the match-winner for Arsenal yet again, scoring in extra-time as Arsene Wenger’s side beat Manchester City 2-1 to book their spot in the FA Cup final where they will face Chelsea.

Alexis now has 24 goals for the Gunners in all competitions this season and speaking after the match Wenger insisted he would still be at the club next year.

However, Sanchez is still to sign a new contract with the club which has led to speculation he could leave this summer with a number of top clubs already linked.

Manchester City, PSG and Chelsea have all been rumoured to be interested in his services and Bayern Munich now look to be the latest name to be added to that list.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side are reportedly keen to freshen up their attack with Arjen Roben and Franck Ribery approaching the end of their careers while the usually reliable Thomas Muller has struggled this season and managed just four Bundesliga goals.

While Bayern look set to retain their Bundesliga title yet again, they were bundled out of the Champions League by Real Madrid and look as though they need to strengthen if they are to make an impact on Europe next season.

Arsenal will be hoping they can convince Sanchez to stay with a strong finish to the season. Sunday’s win will give the club huge confidence as they aim to finish in the top four ahead of their FA Cup final date with Chelsea.

Wilshere Could Make Shock Move To China This Summer

Jack Wilshere is set for talks with Arsene Wenger about his Arsenal future but could end up moving to China this summer if the talks do not go well.

The midfielder has been on loan at Bournemouth and while he has featured regularly he is yet to score for the Cherries and has managed just two assists in 27 Premier League appearances.

Wilshere’s season has now, once again, been ended prematurely after it was confirmed he suffered a hairline fracture in Bournemouth’s defeat to Tottenham although Wenger insists he should be fit for the start of next season.

The Daily Star now report that Wilshere will meet Wenger to discuss his Arsenal future with his contract set to expire at the end of next season.

The Gunners boss apparently wants to be convinced Wilshere has matured and will no longer be indulging in off-field activities that have seen him hit the headlines in recent years.

The tabloid also claims that there is a shortage of suitors for the Englishman with neither Bournemouth nor any other Premier League clubs having shown an interest in his services.

Therefore, if he is deemed surplus to requirements, Wilshere is reportedly ready to consider a lucrative move to China as a potential future option.

Wenger Says No Contact From Marseille & He Wants To Keep Giroud

Arsene Wenger insists he wants to keep Olivier Giroud at Arsenal after reports emerged linking the France international with a move to Marseille.

Speculation has claimed that the Ligue 1 side are ready to spend upto £20m on Giroud this summer and have made the 30-year-old their top transfer target.

Giroud only signed a new deal earlier this year keeping him at the club until 2020 but has struggled for game time, largely due to the sensational form of Alexis Sanchez.

Wenger was asked about Giroud’s future in his pre-match press conference ahead of tomorrow’s clash with Leicester and says he has no intention of selling him.

“I have had no approach from Marseille,” he told reporters. “We want to keep Olivier Giroud.”

However, Wenger also took time out to praise Sanchez, who was again Arsenal’s match-winner on Sunday as the club beat Manchester City to book a spot in the FA Cup final.

“He has been remarkably efficient. He had a very good spell when he played up front,” he added.

“When he plays on the flank he is more of a provider. He can always turn up with something special and he has the individual quality to make the difference.”

Despite Wenger’s words, you can guarantee there will be more speculation over Giroud in the coming months with the club set for a huge summer in the transfer market.

‘I Think I’ll Be At Arsenal Next Season’ – Bellerin Not Thinking About Barcelona

Hector Bellerin has brushed off speculation about a return to Barcelona and says he thinks will still be at Arsenal next season.

The full-back has long been linked with a return to Camp Nou even though he signed a new long-term Arsenal deal back in November.

With Barca still struggling to find a strong replacement for Dani Alves, Bellerin’s name continues to be linked with the club but he says he does not know of any contact.

“I think so. I still have many years of contract at Arsenal and for now it is what it is,” he told IB Times UK.

“I just signed a new deal earlier this season and I am at the disposal of the manager for whenever he needs. I do not know about the offers I get. My job is to focus on the pitch, what happens off it is something for my agent.”

Bellerin has been left on the sidelines in the last few weeks with Arsenal having switched to a back three formation which helped them past Manchester City and into the FA Cup final.

The Gunners will now face Chelsea at Wembley on May 27 and Bellerin is looking forward to the clash.

“My first trophy was the FA Cup and it was one of the most beautiful moments of my career,” he added.

“To play a final at Wembley against Chelsea is going to be very nice. I am looking forward to it. They defend a lot and are fast on the counterattack.

“We beat them 3-0 at the Emirates earlier in the season and we know we can do it again. In a final anything can happen.”

Bellerin’s words will reassure fans although it will be little surprise if Barcelona once again try to sign the full-back thi summer.

Arsenal v Leicester City [Team News] – Oxlade-Chamberlain Left Wembley On Crutches – Wenger Gives Update

Arsene Wenger has confirmed reports that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain left Wembley on crutches after Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final. However, the boss stated that they were just a precaution (via Arsenal.com).

After the highs of Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final win over Manchester City, Arsenal are back in Premier League action on Wednesday night at home to Leicester City.

The reverse fixture finished 0-0 way back in August but the Gunners will be looking for all three points in order to keep up their pursuit of a top-four finish.

Arsene Wenger attended his regular pre-match press conference on Tuesday morning and confirmed reports that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain left Wembley on crutches.

“It was more precautionary,” Wenger confirmed. “It was not for a bad injury. We will test him today”

It seems there are a lot of unknowns ahead of the match at the Emirates. We’re entering a busy period of fixtures which means that rest days are vital. Arsene Wenger confirmed that his squad didn’t train yesterday as they look to recover in time for Wednesday’s match.

“[We’re in] unknown territory because the players were on recovery yesterday,” Wenger continued.

“We have a medical check today to see who is available and who is not. We have nobody really injured after the game.”

So there are a few unknowns ahead of the match with Leicester City. Some of the players – Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in particular – looked exhausted after 120 minutes of __football at Wembley so this could be a good time for squad rotation. Players like Hector Bellerin and Mohamed Elneny could be called upon by Arsene Wenger for the clash.

Wenger Confirms Mbappe Interest But Hints Arsenal Will Be Priced Out Of Move

Arsene Wenger has confirmed Arsenal are keen on signing Monaco striker Kylian Mbappe but fears the club will be priced out of a move for the hotshot.

The Gunners boss has previously admitted he has long held an interest in the teenager who has enjoyed a stunning season scoring 23 goals.

The forward has helped fired Monaco to the top of Ligue 1 in France and into the last four of the Champions League and is expected to be in-demand this summer.

Reports have claimed Real Madrid are to ready to spend £85m on Mbappe and Wenger admits Arsenal hold an interest in the forward, who has been likened to Thierry Henry.

“Of course [we’re following him],” he told SFR Sport. “It would be hypocritical and a lie to say we’re not following him. But he’s perhaps already in the category of clubs who perhaps have more financial potential than us.”

Wenger also compared Mbappe’s situation with that of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez who have also been linked with summer moves.

“I think they [Ozil & Sanchez] should stay here because they are two world-class players and it’s difficult to find world-class players even when you have a lot of money because a lot of clubs have a lot of money and few players can make the difference,” he explained.

“Look at Mbappe at Monaco. The whole of Europe is already onto him — he’s had 20 games — because everything is known immediately now, so you can’t allow yourself to lose your best players.

“And not only us in our situation — you can’t lose them, you have to find new ones, bring them in. So we have two conditions: one, to keep them, and two, bring in other great players.”

Mbappe is one of the hottest properties in Europe right now but few clubs will be able to compete with the might of Real Madrid should they come calling.

Marseille Ready To Offer Arsenal £20m For Giroud

Marseille are keen to sign Olivier Giroud this summer and are willing to offer Arsenal upto £20 million for the striker, according to Sky Sports.

The report claims he is the Ligue 1 side’s top transfer target and they are confident they can tempt him into returning to France.

Giroud only signed a new deal with Arsenal earlier this year, that keeps him at the club until 2020, after being linked with a move away during the winter.

The striker’s agent played down talk of a move to Marseille earlier this month although he did admit that the situation could change in the summer.

Giroud has struggled for starts this season with Alexis Sanchez being preferred in a central role but has still managed 13 goals for the Gunners this season, including some crucial strikes.

Whether he is prepared to continue to play a bit-part role at Arsenal remains to be seen, although Sanchez’s future at the club is far from certain with the Chilean still yet to agree a new deal.

Lucas Perez is also expected to leave after becoming frustrated with the latest reports claiming he could return to Deportivo La Coruna this summer.

While Giroud is a more than useful squad option, an offer of £20m for a player who turns 31 next year could well be too tempting to turn down.

Arsenal rocked as Lyon president makes big transfer claim involving Antoine Griezmann

LYON president Jean-Michel Aulas has suggested Alexandre Lacazette would command a similar fee to Antoine Griezmann.

Lacazette is once again set to be courted by Europe's top clubs this summer after Aulas held on to the France striker last year.

Arsenal had a £29.3million offer rejected but are reportedly set to renew their interest in the 25-year-old.

While Lacazette's compatriot Griezmann is also coveted by Europe's biggest clubs.

The Atletico Madrid striker is wanted by Manchester United and Real Madrid and has a £86m release clause in his contract.

But Aulas appears to believe if Griezmann is worth £86m, Lacazette should command a similar fee.

When asked what he would sell Lacazette for he told French newspaper Le Progres: “We have rejected offers worth around €40m. I am hearing talk about €100m for a Griezmann transfer to Real Madrid.”

He said: "I think that the right moment has arrived to leave. I think that this summer I will need a change of scenery and [to] discover something else, still with the idea of advancing and progressing in terms of football and as a person."
