Arsenal are reportedly on alert after Sevilla coach Jorge Sampaoli admitted he was in no rush to sign a contract extension with the Liga side.
The Argentine’s team have enjoyed a stunning season in Spain and are currently third in the table just two points behind Barcelona in second.
Sevilla’s attractive, attacking __football has seen Sampaoli widely praised and he has been heavily linked with replacing Luis Enrique should he leave Barcelona this summer when his contract expires.
However, The Mirror are reporting that he could become an option for Arsenal, who may be in the hunt for a new coach should Arsene Wenger depart at the end of the season.
Sevilla have offered their coach a one-year extension to his current deal but speaking ahead of his side’s Champions League clash with Leicester he admitted he was in no rush to sign it.
“We appreciate that they are trying to renew our contracts but to do that while we are in the present is very difficult,” he said.
“We only want to live in the moment. The way we work is like this and there are many reasons to appreciate the present.”
Sampaoli came close to a move to the Premier League last summer after revealing recently that he was in negotiations with Chelsea before the club appointed Antonio Conte.
The Argentine won the Copa America with Chile in 2015 and his arrival may certainly please Alexis Sanchez who played under Sampaoli for the national side.
Certainly the colourful 56-year-old would be an excellent candidate to replace Wenger and would definitely ensure exciting __football at the Emirates, although Barcelona may be his preferred destination.
