Mavididi picked up the ball inside his own penalty area before setting off on an amazing dribble that Lionel Messi would have been proud of.

The striker jinked his way past almost half the Rochdale team on his way to the opposite area, showing real pace and power and leaving defenders trailing in his wake.

Unfortunately for Mavididi he couldn’t quite find a finish to match his stunning run, his shot with the outside of his boot too close to the goalkeeper who managed to parry it.

Nevertheless it was a real moment of promise from the young Gunner who will be hoping for more chances to impress for Karl Robinson’s side.

Mavididi has made three appearances for Charlton since his move, and his manager says he has been impressed by the youngster.

“Young Stephy has certainly got some of our fans on the edge of their seats,” he said via London News Online.

“If that goal had gone in it would have been one of the best goals I’ve ever seen live. Unfortunately it wasn’t for him but then we scored from the corner. What I was more impressed with was when we scored the second – for a loan player to celebrate like he did shows that he really cares.

“You don’t always get that when you get players from big clubs. He really cares about the development of himself and the results of the club.”

Keep up the good work Stephy!
