Van Persie was dropped from Louis van Gaal's squad for the trip to Crystal Palace this afternoon.
He had started their last game - a 1-0 defeat to West Brom - having only just come back from an ankle injury sustained in February.
Angel Di Maria was also ruled out through injury, while Radamel Falcao was left on the bench.
