The Daily Star claims that the Red Devils have held talks with the World Cup winner over a potential £37million switch.
It is added that United have already seen a bid of £21.5m rejected by Jurgen Klopp's side.

Former Liverpool star Dietmarr Hamann believes that United should swap Angel Di Maria for Bayern Munich's Mario Gotze.
Di Maria since his £59.7m move from Real Madrid last summer, while Gotze has failed to establish himself as a first-team regular under Pep Guardiola at the Allianz Arena.
And Hamann believes a potential solution would be for the two players to switch sides, explaining: "There has been talk of a swap with Manchester United for Angel di Maria. Whether that is likely I don’t know, but Di Maria is the type of player Bayern need."
United have Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette.
The Liverpool target has been in sensational form this season, scoring 27 goals in 32 Ligue 1 appearances.
But French football journalist Jonathan Johnson believes that United are in pole position for Lacazette's signature, claiming: "I think that United could snap him up… by crazy money, I am talking upwards of €40m."
