The Gunners managed a reasonably comfortable 3-1 over Stoke City at Emirates thanks to some tasty deliveries from new signing Mesut Ozil who managed a hat trick of assists. Special mention to the hardworking Ramsey who continues to thrive with confidence this season after his name appeared on the score sheet for the seventh time this season. Arsene Wenger opted to field a senior side against an inevitably strong Chelsea team, and despite calling on a host of our big name stars, Jose Mourhino’s men were clinical.

Laurent Koscielny, Aaron Ramsey and Santi Cazorla were the only players to remain in the lineup from the weekend, but the likes of Thomas Vermaelen, Jack Wilshere, Nacho Monreal and Tomas Rosicky added plenty of experience and ability to the Gunners.

But it started poorly for the home side after a dodgy headed back-pass by Carl Jenkinson gifted Cesar Azpilicueta the opener, with Juan Mata haunting Arsenal once again with a tidy finish to seal the deal later in the match.

There were still some positives to take from the loss, Cazorla looked lively as did Wilshere, but now our attention turns to Saturday for this weekend’s massive Premier League fixture at home to Liverpool.

There is a silver lining, we will have more of a chance to focus on the League after our Cup exit. To put it simply our squad is not deep enough to challenge on all fronts, if we had drawn a lower league team then things may have been different, but time to pick ourselves up again after consecutive home defeats.

Report: Arsene Wenger ‘Agrees’ Two-Year Deal After Talks With Arsenal Board

Arsene Wenger has reportedly agreed to sign a new two-year deal with Arsenal’s hierarchy with his current terms expiring this summer. However he has yet to officially put pen to paper (via Mirror).

The Mirror claim Wenger has been locked in ‘crunch talks’ with majority shareholder Stan Kroenke and the Gunners board over his future with fan backlash reach new heights during the recent 3-1 loss to West Bromwich Albion.

WRITERS: AllArsenal are seeking new writers to join our fast-growing team - see here for more details.

The long-standing Arsenal manager, who has been at the helm for the last 21 years, recently flew to Paris for the international break and gave a series of illuminating interviews.

With Arsenal enduring their worst run in the Premier League since 1995, with four defeats from their last five matches, the time is certainly not right for the announcement of Arsene Wenger’s future if he is to stay.

The Gunners are in a state of turmoil at present with the futures of their two biggest stars Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil hang in the balance. The two stars may well be heading for the exit door especially if Wenger stays given the consistent lack of substantial investment in world class players while rival clubs sign some of the biggest names in football.

The Mirror’s report is certainly likely to be true given the access the paper has to Arsenal connections. However given the fact no contract is actually signed, if Wenger’s side fail to recover from their rapid decline then he will almost certainly depart this summer.

‘At The End Of The Season We’ll See’ – Ozil Opens Up On Arsenal Future

Mesut Ozil says he will wait until the end of the season to decide his Arsenal future but insists he is “very happy” at the club.

The Germany international has yet to agree a contract extension on his current deal which expires next summer with speculation increasing he could leave.

WRITERS: AllArsenal are seeking new writers to join our fast-growing team - see here for more details.

Arsenal are said to planning for next season without Ozil and Alexis Sanchez with manager Arsene Wenger keen to bring in Alexandre Lacazette and Kylian Mbappe as replacements.

Turkish side Fenerbahce have also been linked with a move for Ozil with the club keen to sign a big-name replacement for Robin van Persie.

Ozil, who reportedly wants a huge pay rise to stay in north London says nothing is agreed yet and he is in no rush to decide his future.

“The fact is I’ve still got a contract in London,” he said via The Mirror.

“To speculate now would be wrong. At the end of the season we will see, there will be talks.

“I’m very happy at Arsenal and in London.”

Ozil has previously insisted that he would only stay at the club if Wenger does and he admits he has no idea what the Frenchman will decide to do but is convinced his team can turn their current poor form around.

“I don’t know what he [Wenger] will decide,” he added. “That’s something we will have to wait for.”

“We are having a difficult phase. Somehow something is not working with the team. We are letting in a lot of goals. Maybe it’s down to self-belief. When I look at the quality of Arsenal though I’m convinced we will get on a run again soon.”

The futures of Ozil, Sanchez and Wenger have dominated the headlines for too long now and the uncertainty is clearly not helping the team with some clarity required as soon as possible.

Xabi Alonso: I Didn’t Sign For Arsenal Because They Refused To Pay An Extra £3 Million

Xabi Alonso has revealed to the English press that he would’ve left Liverpool for Arsenal back in 2009 if the Gunners had paid an extra £3 million. The Spanish midfielder was unsettled at the time and a move to the Emirates was very nearly on the cards (via The Express).

You could build the best __football team on the planet made up entirely of all the players Arsene Wenger has almost signed over the years.

WRITERS: AllArsenal are seeking new writers to join our fast-growing team - see here for more details.

From Zlatan Ibrahimovic to Cristiano Ronaldo to Lionel Messi, the Frenchman has had more than his fair share of almost-deals.

Well, now you can add another name to that list after Xabi Alonso confirmed that he nearly signed for the club too. The midfielder wasn’t a young player at the time, this was back in 2009 when he was at Liverpool, but he would’ve signed for Arsenal but for one detail.

“I was really close to Juventus and I was close to Arsenal”, he told the Liverpool Echo.

“But, it was just £3m. Liverpool were asking £18m and both offered £15m – so that’s why it didn’t happen.”

The fact that Arsenal missed out on Xabi Alonso for the sake of £3 million will leave a bitter taste in the mouths of many Gunners fans. Alonso eventually left for Real Madrid, winning the Champions League with the Spanish giants before moving to Bayern Munich where he has helped his side dominate in Germany.

Xabi Alonso would have been an exceptional signing for Arsenal and would probably still be a crucial part of the side. He possesses many of the attributes which the Gunners have been missing in the last few years from the midfield so the fact that the team could’ve had them for the sake of £3 million is disappointing.

Gunning Down The Years: 25th March

After yesterday’s slightly downbeat recollection of a Highbury defeat – albeit an exciting and eventful one – today’s entry sees us run the rule over a much more satisfying match; a victory away from home. One from a season in which the Arsenal finally won the League after 18 years of trying, having won the ‘Double’ for the first time in 1971. This was to be a pretty pleasant trip to the south coast.

The Arsenal travelled to The Dell 3 points clear of the chasing pack, but had played 2 games more than their closest challengers, Norwich. That’s right, Norwich. A further 5 points behind were the defending champions, Liverpool. Southampton, for their part, desperately needed a win as they were engaged in a relegation dogfight, hovering precariously around the drop zone. For both sides, it was a crucial encounter.

WRITERS: AllArsenal are seeking new writers to join our fast-growing team - see here for more details.

How rarely do we wear our yellow away shirts with white home shorts? We oughta do it more often, ‘cos it agreed with us that day. Tintin-lookalike Perry Groves got the Gunners off to a flyer after the ball had bobbled around the box following a header from Alan Smith that bounced back off the bar. Incidentally, if you haven’t read Groves’ autobiography, We All Live In A Perry Groves World, it’s wonderful and you absolutely should.

1-0 to the Arsenal, and so it stayed until the second half, when Paul Merson fed the ball to the late David Rocastle who, with a sublime bit of skill and trickery, dummied two or three Saints before hammering the ball into the far corner. Just a beautiful finish, right in front of the away fans too. A bit of a defensive mixup between Lee Dixon and Tony Adams then let Southampton captain Glenn Cockerill smash in a piledriver to grab a goal back. Thankfully the Gunners didn’t blow it though, as Merson made the game safe with a close-range volley after some nifty work from Smudger and a perfect cross by Rocky.

Brilliantly, word came in that Norwich had lost, and so the Arsenal went 6 points clear at the summit with just 8 games left to play. Granted, the Canaries still had a couple of games in hand, and the Reds now 9 points behind the league leaders had 3, but surely this title fight wouldn’t go down to the wire…

West Brom v Arsenal [Team News] – Boost For Wenger As Elneny Returns To Training

Arsene Wenger wasn’t in the best mood during his pre-match press conference on Thursday. Perhaps irritated by the constant questions on fan protests and his own future, the Frenchman did give an update on the team news ahead of Saturday’s clash with West Bromwich Albion.

“Gibbs is uncertain at the moment,” Wenger confirmed. “Oxlade-Chamberlain has a test today, but overall it’s the squad that was available [for Lincoln]. Elneny has joined in again. Apart from Cazorla, we should have everybody available.

“Elneny has joined in again. Apart from Cazorla, we should have everybody available.”

Mohamed Elneny has been out of action since picking up an ankle injury during last month’s FA Cup victory over Sutton United. Wenger was asked if he expected the midfielder to return so soon.

“No, because at the start it looked like it was a very bad ankle injury,” the Frenchman went on.

“He has recovered well because he’s a very strong boy and very keen to come back as quickly as possible. It worked well for him.”

It’s a crucial match against West Brom on Saturday. The Gunners need to win to keep up with the chasing pack so it’s a boost to see Mohamed Elneny back in training. Hopefully, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Kieran Gibbs will both return soon to help with the final push in the coming months.

Wenger: I’m Convinced Suarez Wanted To Join Arsenal

Arsene Wenger has been discussing Arsenal’s failed move for Luis Suarez in 2013 and says he is convinced the Uruguay international wanted to move to the Emirates.

The Gunners famously bid £40 million plus £1 for the striker in the hope of activating his release clause but saw their offer turned down by Liverpool.

WRITERS: AllArsenal are seeking new writers to join our fast-growing team - see here for more details.

Suarez then stayed at Anfield, enjoying a superb season, before moving to Barcelona but Wenger insists Arsenal had agreed a deal with the Uruguay international.

“It was very close, we had an agreement with the player,” Wenger told beIN SPORTS. “We had been wrongly advised that he had a clause, you know, with a minimum [price]. But we had an agreement with the player. You can ask him

“I’m convinced that he wanted to join us. And then they kept him for one more year, they improved his contract and promised to sell him a year later to a club abroad.”

Despite his undoubted quality Suarez is a played who divides opinion due to his propensity for biting opponents and also having been found guilty of racially abusing Patrice Evra.

However, Wenger feels that he has managed to eradicate that from his game while still remaining one of the top strikers in European football.

“He had some behaviours that were shocking, but you don’t see them anymore since two or three years,” Wenger said. “He got rid of all the things that were a handicap for him. And today you don’t see that anymore.

“He is still on the borderline with what a striker does well, like go down in the penalty box. But you want that from an intelligent striker, to provoke. But I think he got rid of all the rest.”

After starring for Liverpool, Suarez has gone on to another level at Barcelona winning two Liga titles and the Champions League and, frustratingly, is one of a growing number of top stars that Wenger is happy to admit the club have missed out on.

5 Reasons Why ‘Big Rom’ Should Be Arsenal’s No1 Transfer Target

By Elliot Brown.

The word ‘complete’ is a word that is often thrown around a lot in today’s footballing sphere and most of the time prematurely or undeservingly so. But never has a word best befitted a modern day centre forward more so than Everton’s want away hitman Romelu Lukaku.

WRITERS: AllArsenal are seeking new writers to join our fast-growing team - see here for more details.

Unrivalled physical strength coupled with his blistering pace off the mark, as well as his ability to find the back of the net on a regular basis makes the Belgian striker an obvious choice for most of Europe’s elite clubs, but here are 5 reasons as to why Arsenal, albeit with or without Arsene Wenger at the helm should break the bank for ‘Big Rom’ in light of his recent decision not to sign a new contract at Goodison Park (according to BBC).

Goalscorer

The most obvious, and perhaps, the most important reason, for Lukaku to be on Arsenal’s radar this summer is his outstanding goalscoring record. The Belgian target man first blessed the Premier League with his goal-scoring prowess in the 2012/13 season whilst on loan at West Bromwich Albion, whereby he netted 17 times in 35 games as a 19 year old! And it is safe to say that the big-man hasn’t looked back since, hitting double figures in every season he’s played for Everton, including a staggering 19 goals already this season with 11 games to go!

To say that the Gunners have been a one man team in terms of Premier League goalscoring this season would be an understatement. Alexis Sanchez has stood alone as the only Arsenal player to get into double figures in league goals this season. So the added goal threat of Romelu Lukaku would 100% take the pressure off the flamboyant Chilean and will no doubt improve our endeavours in regards to our goal-difference, which has been below average in recent seasons.

Physicality

One of the biggest criticisms of recent Arsenal teams is our lack of physical presence in key areas of the pitch, which perhaps has allowed lesser teams to enjoy playing against the Gunners at times. With Giroud constantly in and out of the side, Mertesacker no longer deemed as a first team regular and Xhaka failing to make his physical presence felt this season, as well as both our main centre halves, Mustafi and Koscielny, Arsenal have lacked a consistent strong presence at both ends of the pitch. Barely over 6ft tall, Lukaku’s natural physicality, strength and presence would be a welcome addition to the Arsenal starting 11.

Premier League Experience

To say that experience playing in Europe’s elite league is an invaluable trait to possess would be a profound understatement. It goes without saying that if a player can make it in the ‘Prem’ they can play anywhere in the world. Arsenal, on too many occasions, have bought players from different countries whereby their ‘settling in period’ has come at the cost of the team as a whole. Giroud, Eduardo, Mertesacker, Xhaka and even Laurent Koscielny, just to name a few, were slow to ‘take’ to the English game and their inability to adapt to the quicker pace of the Premier League effected the Arsenal somewhere down the line.

Read more: Allegri’s Mentor Tells Him To Leave, Says Arsenal Would Be A Good Fit

In contrast, Romelu Lukaku took to the demands of the English league like a duck to water, seemingly improving on every aspect of his game year by year. If Arsenal were to land a deal to sign the Everton forward he would be expected to hit the ground running at the Emirates, not only in terms of goals but performances as well, an expectation that he has already shown he is capable of playing under.

Big Game Player

Arsenal as a squad are blessed with talented players. Some would say that the Gunners have one of the most talented and naturally gifted squads in Europe. So why exactly do we seem to ‘bottle’ games against the bigger sides in the Premier League and in Europe? Truth is we will never fully know. But what we do know is that some of our more important players don’t seem to perform to the best of their abilities against rival teams. Romelu Lukaku has proved that he isn’t that type of player. In an Everton side whereby he is undoubtedly the main player, ‘Big Rom’ has shown time and time again that he does not shy away from the big occasion, finding the back of the net against Arsenal (again), at home to Manchester City this season and, most recently, away to Spurs.

Available

The fact that Romelu Lukaku would be available this summer is by far and large the main reason as to why Arsenal should break the bank. Arsenal have been linked with some of the best strikers in Europe in recent transfer windows, Karim Benzema and Gonzalo Higuain just to name a couple, however the prospect of signing such players always seemed like distant fantasies.

Ask yourself; how many times have you heard Arsene Wenger say: ‘We will only be in the market for top quality players if they are available’? In Lukaku there is a potentially world-class centre forward with ample Premier League experience, and undeniable goalscoring ability who craves Champions League football.

Read More: Arsenal Linked With Lukaku’s Team-mate

After rejecting an extremely lucrative new contract at Goodison Park it is clear that the Belgian would be available for a transfer if the price is right. So, instead of sitting there and letting him go back to Chelsea, and in couple of years say ‘we could’ve signed him’, next summers transfer targets, whether Mr.Wenger is in charge or not, should be based around Romelu Lukaku as our number one addition for the 2017/18 season. Maybe that could be a catalyst for players like Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil to follow suit and sign on the dotted line.

This Is How Bournemouth Are Keeping Jack Wilshere Fit When Arsenal Couldn’t

Arsenal loanee Jack Wilshere has managed to make 19 starts this season with four substitute appearances, a vast improvement on the three appearances the season prior. It appears it is purely down to the technology, analysis and most importantly discipline being employed by Bournemouth that has helped the midfielder find his feet again.

Wilshere became Arsenal’s youngest Premier League player at the age of 16 years 256 days old against Blackburn Rovers in 2008, but it wasn’t until November last year that he finally managed to reach the milestone of 100 Premier League starts.

WRITERS: AllArsenal are seeking new writers to join our fast-growing team - see here for more details.

Injuries have consistently plagued the Arsenal Academy graduate over the years, and while many hoped he’d return to his all-action ways, this season he hasn’t quite hit the heights many had hoped.

But he has remained fit. Which is more than you can say for the last few seasons. For Arsenal, this is at least the first priority.

The 25-year-old is being managed incredibly closely by Dr Craig Roberts, head of medical services at Bournemouth, and a recent interview with Training Ground Guru gives fans an incredibly interesting insight into the man management the doctor along with Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe are taking with Wilshere.

“Jack has had a lot of overuse type injuries over the years. He’s had some traumatic ones as well, which every player can get, but he’s a player who is prone to break down if the load is too high,” Roberts said.

“For us, particularly given that he hadn’t played a lot leading up to joining us, we were very very strict in terms of the amount of training he would do in the week leading up to a game.

“There is a lot of new interesting data coming out in terms of looking at acute verse chronic load and matching up how much you can do this week based on what you have been doing for the last four weeks.

“We were very strict on what he could and couldn’t do. Jack didn’t like it, because he just wanted to get out and train and play.

“But until we were able to build up the load that he could tolerate, we had to be very careful in terms of what we did.”

As Robert mentioned, Wilshere didn’t like missing out on training. Given Arsene Wenger’s inability to tame Alexis Sanchez and his willingness to please players (an admirable trait however could end up being his downfall), there is the possibility Wilshere just trained at Arsenal when he shouldn’t have.

“Our manager was really good with that, especially initially. Jack would do half a session and then we’d pull him out; then build it up, build it up, build it up. We’ve got to a stage now where he is doing most of the sessions but we still are managing him in terms of how much he does.”

“Literally with Jack we would say, ‘this session he can do so many metres, that’s it, until we’ve built him up to a stage where he is able to cope with the load’.

“We still have players – he’s not the only one – who we need to manage during the week. Certain players, the way our manager likes to train, cannot do three heavy days in a row, they’re not able to do that. We have a progressive manager and really good buy-in from him in terms of being able to pull players in and out of training.”

It may seem as if Arsenal are not quite up to scratch when you hear the in-depth analysis and strictness Bournemouth apply to their players fitness. However Roberts was quick to point out the ongoing dialogue they have with the Arsenal medical staff and collaboration they’ve had over Wilshere’s training schedule.

“Arsenal have been amazing, we’ve worked very closely with them,” he added. “We communicate regularly with them in terms of where Jack is, what he’s doing, how things are going.

“Gary [O’Driscoll, Arsenal’s team doctor] and I have been in very regular communication. They have been as instrumental in managing him as we have.”

There was a general preconception that Wilshere was dropped for The Cherries due to poor form ahead of their promising draw with Manchester United that proved the catalyst for their back-to-back Premier League wins. In fact the Gunners midfielder had picked up a knock against West Bromwich Albion, and consequently Howe changed to a 4-4-2 with former Gunner Benik Afobe joining the attack. So why change a winning team even if means Wilshere has to remain benched?

In fact the Gunners midfielder came off the bench to provide a crucial assist in their 3-2 win over West Ham. While he may not have gotten his name on the scoresheet yet or will be breaking any assist records during his time on the South Coast, this season is proving vital in his career to help him get back on track. He still has a lot to prove, but at least he is getting a full season under his belt (touch-wood) and his recent omission from the England setup may prove to a be a blessing in disguise.

Arsenal Target Premier League Winner Kasper Schmeichel

Arsenal have eyes on Premier League Champion and Leicester City star goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel to challenge Petr Cech for the No.1 shirt next season with David Ospina likely to depart in the summer in search of regular game time (via Mirror).

As reports of an agreement over a new two-year deal for Arsene Wenger surfaces, it seems likely the Frenchman will remain in charge for the foreseeable future and is eager to strengthen the side significantly this summer.

WRITERS: AllArsenal are seeking new writers to join our fast-growing team - see here for more details.

A huge dark cloud surrounds Emirates at the moment with a mixture of poor form, the uncertain future over the manager and many of the clubs stars potentially on the way out this summer – the Arsenal board have little choice but to invest significantly in the transfer market to fix a number of problems throughout the squad.

Petr Cech has drawn plenty of criticism this season, clearly showing his age on a number of occasions as well as his vulnerability to muscular injuries as he faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after a recent calf strain. Although his Arsenal career is certainly not over, next season he will need to be pushed further and David Ospina isn’t necessarily the man to do it.

The Colombian has continually played second fiddle while at the club under Arsene Wenger, used primarily as a Cup goalkeeper since Cech’s arrival from Chelsea in the summer of 2015.

Enter Kasper Schmeichel. While Leicester struggled until the departure of Claudio Ranieri, Schmeichel has been solid throughout the season and has become one of the leagues finest shot stoppers. His Champions League exploits will only heighten his pedigree and is currently valued at approximately £6.8m (via ).

There is of course Wojciech Szczesny to consider as he looks set to return to Arsenal after his loan spell ends at Roma, however despite some decent performances in Italy he still hasn’t reached the heights many had hoped he’d reach.

At 30-years-old, Schmeichel is in the prime of his career and could be an exciting acquisition.

This Is Why Arsenal Should Force Mesut Özil And Alexis Sánchez To Stay – Even Without New Deals

The signing of Mesut Ozil and then Alexis Sanchez a year later represented a shift in mentality at the club. Arsenal could purchase world class players and finally win some silverware after nine barren years. However with both of their contracts in a precarious position, Arsenal and Arsene Wenger should push to retain their services even if it means losing them for free. And I’ll tell you why.

Firstly though, let’s rewind a little.

WRITERS: AllArsenal are seeking new writers to join our fast-growing team - see here for more details.

Wenger has been in charge of Arsenal for over 20 years. His reign is often divided into two periods by fans: between 1997 and 2005 during which time Arsenal won the league three times and the FA Cup four times and the current one that started in 2005 during which Arsenal had to go through a strict financial policy due to costs of a new stadium which hampered our results in all competitions.

However, there is a lot of sense in pointing out that the second period had actually ended in 2013 and the signing of Mesut Özil in September that year was the dawn of a post-austerity period.

Signing Mesut Özil wasn’t just proof that Arsenal would be able to spend big money on new recruits. It was also a symbol of a new era in which Arsenal wouldn’t struggle to keep their best players in their peak years, an era in which the sale of Robin van Persie to Manchester United or Samir Nasri to Manchester City wouldn’t have to be sanctioned. It was the sign of a brand new Arsenal, a club that wouldn’t have to act defensively in the transfer market as the financial shackles were finally taken off.

Whilst that point of view was both optimistic and realistic, it neglects the fact that Arsenal have been acting defensively in the transfer market since 1999 or almost a decade before our move to a new stadium.

Remember Nicolas Anelka? The French youngster was dubbed Le Sulk by the media. After Arsenal missed out on their first successful title defence post-WW2 by a single point and a 19-year-old Anelka missed the top-scorer award by a single goal, rich European clubs were all over the Frenchman.

The milk-rich Lazio had been favourites to land Anelka but he eventually ended up at Real Madrid. Arsenal received 50 times the fee they had paid to PSG in 1997 and reinvested some of that money in some guy who hadn’t been able to find his feet at Juventus. I think his name was Thierry Henry.. Heard of him?

In 2000, Barcelona were anxious to spend the world record transfer fee received for Luis Figo from their arch-rivals Real Madrid so they started their annoying habit of buying up Arsenal stars. Marc Overmars and Emmanuel Petit were the pioneers who laid the ground for Gio van Bronckhorst, Thierry Henry, Aliaksandr Hleb, Cesc Fabregas, Alex Song and Thomas Vermaelen in the following years.

One of rare transfer victories Arsenal have had over the biggest European clubs was edging out Real Madrid and Juventus in the battle for a certain Robert Pires from Olympique Marseille.

In the summer of 2001, the biggest transfer story was Sol Campbell’s arrival to Arsenal but we should not forget how Patrick Vieira almost forced his transfer away. “It would be a miracle if we finish in Top Five“ is not a sentence from Alexis Sánchez’ secret diary but something Vieira said.

Alex Ferguson was all over Vieira but Arsene Wenger managed to persuade Vieira to reject all approaches from Manchester United and Real Madrid and sign a new contract with Arsenal instead. Arsenal won the double in 2001-02 and Vieira eventually became captain of The Invincibles.

After Arsenal had to become more careful with money, our defensive formation became even more rigid. Ashley Cole to Chelsea, Kolo Toure, Samir Nasri, Emmanuel Adebayor and Gael Clichy to Manchester City, Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona…were all crowned with the most painful transfer of all – Robin van Persie to Manchester United.

The summer of 2013 was the first in which Arsenal didn’t have to worry about losing their best players. Mesut Özil was the brightest talent in a fantastic German team that would eventually conquer the world and arguably the second best Real Madrid player after Cristiano Ronaldo.

In 2014 we got Alexis Sánchez, one of the best South American forwards in Europe, who was signed from Barcelona which also added an exciting proposition that we finally were able to pick up some of their players.

In truth, both Real Madrid and Barcelona sold Özil and Alexis respectively to fund transfers of superstars (Gareth Bale and Luis Suarez) that would help them to win the Champions League. In fact, since Mesut Özil’s departure, Real Madrid have won the Champions League twice and Barcelona have done it after replacing Alexis with Suarez.

On the other hand, Arsenal have won the FA Cup and Community Shield on two occasions, haven’t been able to progress beyond the round of 16 in the Champions League and have failed to win the league even with two world-class players.

Right now, the situation surrounding Özil and Alexis is not looking positive as the German is completely out of form and Alexis seems to be on a different wave-length from the rest of the team and the manager. Both players will soon be entering the final year of their respective contracts.

So, is there really a reason why Arsenal should stick with Özil and Alexis beyond next summer?

The answer is, quite simply, yes. Here are a few reasons why.

1.Selling them to rivals would be a double blow.

Losing both/either Özil and/or Alexis to any of our league rivals would be a major disaster as our rivals would get a player that is already adjusted to the Premier League and anxious to win the competition.

We have already seen Van Persie and Fabregas winning the league with Manchester United and Chelsea respectively with those two players adding a new dimension to their new clubs.

2. Selling them anywhere would turn out to be extremely expensive for us.

Even if we avoid the trap of selling Özil and/or Alexis to our rival clubs and sell them elsewhere (Real Madrid, Barcelona, PSG, Bayern, Juventus or China), we would still need to find replacements. And, let’s face it, you don’t exactly find players of Özil and Alexis’ quality on the shelf at your local supermarket.

We would have to pay a premium price for their replacements and the wages for the new recruits would hardly be below £200,000-per-week…Each. Add all the other expenses that a player registration entails and it’s virtually impossible that Arsenal would get both a positive financial balance and adequate replacements for Özil and Alexis.

3. Selling them anywhere would send the wrong message to all transfer targets.

Let’s face it: most top players want to play next to other top players as it makes their quest for trophies easier and all of them want a top wage. It’s easy to say: “Let’s sell Alexis and buy Antoine Griezmann as his replacement“ but real-life __football doesn’t work that way. My guess is, Griezmann or any other player of his caliber would be reluctant to join a club that sell their best players regardless of the circumstances.

With no disrespect to any of our players, you don’t respect Arsenal for Theo Walcott’s consistence, Kieran Gibbs’ right foot or Francis Coquelin’s creativity. You respect Arsenal because of Mesut Özil’s perfect passes and Alexis Sanchez’ goals.

4.There are number of examples of how difficult it is to replace world-class players.

Massimiliano Allegri has been linked with Arsenal for months but it would be really great if Arsene Wenger asks him about losing two world-class players for peanuts in the same transfer window.

Allegri was at AC Milan in the summer of 2012 when Thiago Silva, arguably the best central defender in the world at the time, and Zlatan Ibrahimović, arguably the best striker in Serie A at the time, were sold to PSG.

AC Milan didn’t get much money for the world-class duo (the combined fee was smaller than what Liverpool paid for the likes of Stewart Downing and Andy Carroll) and, what is even more important, were unable to find the right replacements for either.

As you might have noticed, AC Milan have been absent from Champions League __football for some time and even if they have made a few strong purchases adding bright talents to their team, they will miss out on Champions League and possibly even Europa League football next season as well.

Tottenham and Liverpool had tried to replace Gareth Bale and Luis Suarez respectively with quantity or, as someone once put it, they tried to “sell Elvis and buy The Beatles“ but it hasn’t panned out well.

What is even more important, Tottenham losing Bale and Liverpool losing Suarez meant they could not rely on their world-class player to bail them out (yes, I missed a chance for a pun there) by creating a goal out of nothing.

Oh, and remember that story of Barcelona and Luis Figo from above? They spent four years after selling Figo without winning the league or any significant trophy before Ronaldinho brought his magic to the Camp Nou.

5. Perhaps it’s time to do “The Lewandowski“ on Alexis and Özil.

Yes, there is always a possibility that keeping a player in the team until his contract expires will backfire. If you don’t believe me, ask Jürgen Klopp about his decision to stick with Robert Lewandowski for his final year of the contract without any real effect on Borussia Dortmund’s results as Bayern München secured the league title come March anyway.

Lewandowski saw out his contract with Dortmund and signed for Bayern. Klopp got zilch for him. Fortunately for them, they had already signed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang so they found a replacement for Lewandowski while the Polish striker was still in black and yellow.

However, for every Lewandowski there is a Van Persie case. Wenger decided to sell a 29-year-old and injury-prone Van Persie, who had entered his last 12 months, to Manchester United in order to get some money for new signings. Van Persie responded by dragging Manchester United to the title all by himself scoring crucial goals in their victories over Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City while the Gunners struggled to score in big matches.

Conclusion

It’s true that Arsenal are bigger than any player and that wild player demands should not be fulfilled. However, if Arsenal want to be a big club that want to keep pace with other big English and European clubs, we have to act like one and try to have as many world-class players as possible.

Right now, there is no better way to make a statement by not only holding onto both Mesut Özil and Alexis Sánchez but also adding at least one more player of their caliber to our ranks.

If we keep Mesut and Alexis beyond next summer and add, say, Romelu Lukaku to our attack, we’d have a battering R(omelu)A(lexis)M(esut) to torment all our opponents!

Wenger To Use New Midfield Combination – West Brom v Arsenal [Predicted Lineup]

Arsenal travel to West Brom for the early fixture on Saturday. It’s a must-win match for Arsene Wenger and Arsenal and we think the Frenchman will make a couple of changes to the side which got past Lincoln City last weekend.

—–
Matchday: Team News – Predicted Lineup – Match Highlights
Match: West Bromwich Albion v Arsenal
Stadium: The Hawthorns
Kick-Off (GMT): Sat 18 Mar 12:30
—–

WRITERS: AllArsenal are seeking new writers to join our fast-growing team - see here for more details.

Here’s how we think Arsenal will line up:

GK) Petr Cech

The Czech stopper will undoubtedly start against the Baggies. It was a surprise to see Petr Cech’s name in the starting lineup last weekend and the former Chelsea man will be looking for more of the same.

RB) Hector Bellerin

Amid the speculation over his future, Hector Bellerin should keep his place at right-back.

CB) Laurent Koscielny

There’s little doubt that Laurent Koscielny will play. The Frenchman will need to be at his best to stop an effective West Brom attack.

CB) Shkodran Mustafi

Shkodran Mustafi should partner Koscielny in defence. The German has had a tough couple of week and will want to put that behind him with a good performance.

LB) Nacho Monreal

With Kieran Gibbs potentially missing out, Nacho Monreal will surely start. The Spaniard probably would’ve been tested for his place by Gibbs had he been fit.

Arsenal star Nacho Monreal: What I think about Arsene Wenger's future Who could succeed Arsene Wenger at Arsenal?

NACHO MONREAL has explained what life at Arsenal would be like without Arsene Wenger in charge.

Arsenal have endured a torrid spell, losing four of their past five Premier League games.

After their latest defeat, Arsene Wenger claimed fans will know about his future "very soon".

Despite calls from the supporters for him to quit, the Frenchman is preparing a list of summer targets in the event Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil should leave.

The Gunners have won just two major trophies since 2005, but Monreal has given his full backing to Wenger.

Arsene Wenger's Arsenal future remains unclear

"An Arsenal without Wenger? It’s complicated, isn’t it?," Monreal told Spanish radio station Radio Marca.

"It’s complicated to imagine it, because he’s been the manager for more than 20 years, and the truth is I can’t imagine it, but only time will tell.

"At the end of the day, he’s someone who’s been at the club for 20 years. He’s the boss.

"He holds the most weight in the dressing room, at board level, and he controls pretty much everything, but he’s very approachable."

Although there have been suggestions of a rift in the camp between the players and the manager, Monreal is adamant him and his team-mates won't let their poor form get them down.

He added: "He’s someone who speaks with the players, asks about everyone’s situations. He always has positive things to say, and he likes to have a controlled dressing room, and a good atmosphere.

"We’re fortunate to have him.

“We’ll give everything until the end. If he decides to renew, then of course we’ll be behind him, we trust him.”

Shkodran Mustafi: What I really think of my Arsenal team-mate Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain Arsenal transfers: List of summer targets revealed

SHKODRAN MUSTAFI has praised his Arsenal team-mate Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain ahead of Germany’s clash with England.

Oxlade-Chamberlain’s future at Arsenal is becoming increasingly doubtful.

The midfielder, who is out of contract at the end of next season, has been linked with a move away from the club after struggling for game time.

But his Arsenal team-mate Mustafi has heaped praised on the 23-year-old.

Arsenal are considering a £25million move for Barcelona outcast Arda Turan, according to the Times.

Turan is expected to leave Barcelona this summer after struggling to break into Luis Enrique’s side on a regular basis.

And Arsenal could offer him an escape as they look to rebuild with Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil looking likely to leave.

Turan, 30, will have 12 months left on his contract in the summer but Barcelona look set to recoup most of their £26m outlay on the Turkey star.

Jose Mourinho wants Jordi Alba to replace Luke Shaw at Manchester United, according to the Manchester Evening News.

Shaw has struggled under Mourinho after breaking his leg last season.

The England defender has suffered a crisis of confidence and barely played under Mourinho.

And Alba is said to be willing to move to Manchester.

Liverpool have been urged to sign Joe Hart this summer.

Jurgen Klopp’s goalkeepers have been in indifferent form this term with both Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius finding themselves dropped at times.

And Ray Wilkins thinks Klopp should target Hart who looks set to leave Manchester City.

Joe Hart is likely to leave Manchester City after being dumped by Pep Guardiola

"If I was Klopp I would certainly be going for him," Wilkins told Premier League Daily on Sky Sports.

"The save he made last night down to his left hand side was absolutely superb.

"He is obviously a very talented young man and I would like to see him back in England playing in the Premier League.

"Karius would probably stay if they were to bring in a top-quality goalkeeper but Mignolet probably sees himself as a number one so he would have to disappear."

Diego Costa is set to stay at Chelsea this summer despite being linked with a move away.

Costa was wanted by Chinese side Tianjin Quanjian in January and threw a strop when a move was rejected.

But the bookmakers think he will stay put.

Betway make Costa 2/9 to leave in the summer while it’s 3/1 he rejoins Atletico Madrid. A move to any Chinese club is 5/1.

Betway’s Alan Alger said: “Despite feeling unsettled in January, Diego Costa’s relationship with Antonio Conte seems right back on track.

“Currently spearheading Chelsea’s title charge, we make him 2/9 to stay at the Blues this summer.

“However, the Spaniard has already said he would welcome a return to Atletico Madrid, and he’s 3/1 to re-unite with Diego Simeone this summer.

“There’s always the chance that a mega-money deal could lure Costa to China at 5/1 too.”

Jurgen Klopp is keen to reunite with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at Liverpool

Liverpool have been told they will have to make an ‘outrageous offer’ should they wish to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Jurgen Klopp is keen to strike a deal for the player who he signed when he was in charge of Borussia Dortmund.

Although Aubameyang is valued at £40million, Dortmund will hold out for a big fee.

And Dortmund’s chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke hopes he has made himself loud and clear to suitors.

“As of yet, I have no information that suggests Auba will leave Dortmund," Watzke said.

Manchester United are pushing hard to sign Kylian Mbappe

"If we were to reach that point, we will sit down and listen to each other, we have a lot of respect for Auba and he deserves that.

"But there are not an awful lot of clubs that would be a step forward for him in my opinion. Either way, he will only leave Dortmund for an outrageous transfer fee if he does move.”

Manchester United have reportedly had two offers turned down for Monaco ace Kylian Mbappe.

Jose Mourinho is looking to bring a proven goalscorer to Old Trafford in the summer.

Antoine Griezmann is his top target, but has liked what he has seen from Mbappe.

And Spanish radio station Cadena Cope claim United were unsuccessful with two bids - one of which was a staggering £95m.

Chelsea and Manchester City are on alert for Leonardo Bonucci, according to reports.

The Juventus defender was linked with a move to the Blues last summer, while City are long-term admirers too.

Bonucci’s future in Turin appears to be up in the air, especially after falling out with his boss Max Allegri.

And according to Yahoo Sports, the 29-year-old could be inclined to leave if Allegri stays put.

Should he move, Bonucci could eclipse the current world record fee for a defender which is held by David Luiz when he joined Paris Saint-Germain for £50m from Chelsea in 2014.
