Arsenal fans hilariously liken England to Spurs after Russia capitulation

Despite a generally dominant performance, England once again collapsed at a major tournament and failed to win their first game at Euro 2016. Russia’s 91st minute equaliser had Arsenal fans likening England to Tottenham, who collapsed at the last hurdle in the Premier League and once against finished behind us in the Premier League (via the Metro).

England were excellent for most of the game, with Russia creating little of note. The Three Lions were constantly controlling the game and dictating the tempo, but were unable to get that all important goal. When they did finally get the goal – through Tottenham’s Eric Dier with an admittedly superb free-kick – all they had to do was hold on for 20 minutes, but they were unable to do so.

The poor game management of England allowed Russia to pile the pressure on in the dying minutes, and Vasili Berezutski’s late, late header saw them finish with merely a point.

Arsenal fans took to Twitter to compare their capitulation to Tottenham’s, ripping into both Spurs and England.

Not sure if it’s a coincidence that an England team so dominated by Spurs players, bottle it right at the end.

Well, given that it was Spurs vs Russia, I thought we did very well not to concede five goals at the final hurdle. #ENG #Euro2016 — North Bank Nadim (@NorthBankNadim) June 11, 2016

As an England fan you obviously don’t want to see your team blasted, but as an Arsenal fan you can’t help but find the comparison and the Spurs criticism amusing.
