“Why not?” – Wenger Open To Taking England Job

Arsene Wenger has admitted he is open to taking on the job of England manager following Sam Allardyce’s departure after just 67 days and one game in charge.

The Frenchman has long been linked with the Wembley hot seat but the Arsenal board are reportedly set to offer him a two-year deal, as his current deal expires at the end of the season.

Wenger was asked if he would consider taking on the England job at Friday’s pre-match press conference ahead of the trip to Burnley, and admitted he would consider it if he was available.

“My priority is to do well here,” he told reporters. “It’s always been my club. If I am free one day why not but my focus is here.”

Wenger also reiterated that his decision to stay at the club would hinge on how the team performs this season. He also admitted that the club’s affection for him could influence his decision.

“Yes of course. But what will influence me the most is the fact if I feel whether I do well and I can move this team forward,” he added.

“I want to win absolutely everything and play the perfect game in every single game that’s my dream, for the fans to enjoy what they see and for the players to enjoy what they do.

“I rule nothing out because I want to work and I want to do well but I accept as well that it can finish tomorrow, it’s a love story and a love story you expect to last forever but it can stop any day.”

Wenger celebrates 20 years in charge of Arsenal on October 1st and his latest comments suggest he is still undecided if he will remain at the club after this season. While he may well be open to taking on the England job, he has repeatedly insisted that Arsenal is his priority but it remains to be seen whether he will still be around to celebrate 21 years at the helm.
