Arsenal and Manchester United have begun talks with West Ham over the transfer of Dimitri Payet. The Frenchman starred for the Hammers last season but has told the club he wants to leave this transfer window (via The Metro).
The future of Dimitri Payet is a potential transfer saga brewing. The Frenchman burst onto the Premier League scene last season before starring for France in the European Championships. The West Ham man elected to stay at the club during the summer but that changed when he asked to leave the London Stadium this January.
Marseille have been strongly linked with the player and West Ham have reportedly turned down two bids from their club for their former star. Now, it seems, they could have some rivalry.
The Metro reports that both Arsenal and Manchester United have begun talks with West Ham over the France international.
It would be a massive story if either club moves for the player and something of a surprise as well. Arsenal have no shortage of attacking midfielders and neither, it seems, do Manchester United.
Payet, meanwhile, has had offers from the Chinese Super League as well but is reportedly keen to return to Marseille for family reasons.
It’s no secret that Arsene Wenger is a fan of the player but it would be a huge surprise if Arsenal made a move for Dimitri Payet. The Gunners have a number of players who can play attacking midfield and as good as Payet has been in the last 18 months, he wouldn’t play ahead of Mesut Özil on current form, not to mention his shocking attitude to a club that has given him the platform to become the player he has become.
