Olivier Giroud says Arsenal have to start games better after coming from behind to beat Preston 2-1 in the FA Cup third round on Saturday.
The Gunners suffered an early blow after the Championship side took an early lead through Callum Robinson and missed further chances in an eventful first half.
However, Arsenal hit back through Aaron Ramsey before Giroud scored yet another late equaliser to send the Gunners into the fourth round.
The game follows Arsenal’s comeback after going 3-0 down at Bournemouth and Giroud says they must improve.
“We wanted to start the game better than the last game at Bournemouth. Unfortunately, they surprised us with their commitment,” he said via the official Arsenal website.
“We wanted to bounce back second half and show some character with an early goal in the second half with Aaron – a nice goal. One more time we had to score in the last minute but one more time we’ve shown a very strong team character. We want to start the games better.”
Giroud also admits his team’s first half performance was particularly unimpressive as they struggled to cope with the hosts.
“I don’t know but they put a lot of intensity in the duels and the team was beaten physically. It was not Arsenal so we wanted to show something else in the second half,” he added.
“We have done it, but we need to start the games better. We are pleased with the amazing support of the fans tonight at this game.”
While Arsenal’s comebacks have shown great character Wenger must be concerned by the vulnerability his team have shown at times in recent weeks.
