FA Cup round-up: Lincoln heroes, Spurs salvage, Newcastle shocked, Wolves upset

EXPRESS SPORT takes you through all the action from Saturday's FA Cup fourth round fixtures.

Tottenham 4 Wycombe 3

DELE ALLI has scored some priceless goals for Spurs – but none has saved them from the embarrassment of going out of the FA Cup to fourth-tier opposition for the first time in their history.

Wycombe must have been dreaming of another big day when Garry Thompson put them within seven minutes of the last 16 with his  headed goal after fellow sub Myles Weston had skinned England star Eric Dier.

But Alli sidefooted past the superb Jamal Blackman to level at 3-3, before a dramatic winner from two-goal Heung-Min Son with seconds of stoppage time to go left gallant Wanderers in tears.

Lincoln 3 Brighton 1

Lincoln’s historic FA Cup adventure continued with a shock victory over Championship leaders Brighton as they reached the fifth round for the first time in 130 years.

Imps boss Danny Cowley described beating Ipswich in the last round as “climbing a mountain” and said repeating the feat against Brighton would be like “getting to the moon”.

Well, they did it, albeit the hard way, going a goal behind to Richie Towell’s first-half strike. But Alan Power’s penalty, a Fikayo Tomori own goal and a late effort from Theo Robinson completed a famous turnaround in the second half and sent Lincoln through.

Liverpool 1 Wolves 2

LIVERPOOL are out of the EFL Cup. They are out of the FA Cup. Come Tuesday, they could be out of the title race too.

This is already the worst week of Jurgen Klopp’s reign, the most miserable month of his time on Merseyside. It is getting worse, going from damaging towards disastrous.

As Wolves savoured a famous win at Anfield, Liverpool were left with an increasingly familiar feeling – defeat.

They went unbeaten at home for almost a year. Now they have lost three times in eight days.

Everything that was good about them in autumn – the speed, the spark, the skill, the scoring habit – is gone. So is much of the belief Klopp wants. So, barring a remarkable recovery in the Premier League, is their chance of winning a first trophy under the German this season.

Chelsea 4 Brentford 0

CHELSEA power on relentlessly with literally plenty in reserve. Antonio Conte gave some of his second string a run-out and they didn’t let him down with a ruthless display that won’t have gone unnoticed on Merseyside.

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool is the next stop on Tuesday and if Chelsea do what the last three visitors there have done – and win – who will bet against them going on to reclaim the Premier League title?

They they have the look of champions about them and, if today's show is anything to go by, possible FA Cup winners as well.

Lincoln's historic FA Cup run continued with a win over Brighton

Southampton 0 Arsenal 5

DANNY WELBECK made his first start in 265 days - and bagged a deadly double inside seven minutes to fire Arsenal into the fifth round.

What a way for the England hit man to announce his complete recovery from the serious cruciate injury that had kept him on the sidelines since last May.

And Welbeck's sizzling first-half strikes at St Mary's, allied to a Theo Walcott hat-trick, meant suspended Arsene Wenger could put his feet up and relax in the stands.

Crystal Palace 0 Manchester City 3

THIS was football in the raw as hailstones large as golf balls battered fans and players alike.

It made fools of some, heroes of others. City had heroes in bundles. Particularly David Silva and Yaya Toure, whose added-time free-kick was worth the entrance money alone.

Palace can now resume their battle against relegation without any distractions. On this showing, they face a tough battle but then again few teams will offer the same quality as City.

Middlesbrough 1 Accrington 0

STEWART DOWNING rescued Boro boss Aitor Karanka from potential embarrassment with a reminder that he is still a class act.

Downing’s future has been thrown into doubt lately as he has been forced to fight for his place.

But, with Premier League Boro struggling to break down battling League Two Accrington, Downing struck in emphatic fashion in the 69th minute.

Blackburn 2 Blackpool 0

ELLIOTT BENNETT’S spectacular strike capped off a miserable return to Blackburn for Gary Bowyer as 10-man Blackpool were sunk.

Blackburn, who sacked Bowyer as boss in November 2015, led in the ninth minute through a simple Sam Gallagher header.

Bennett’s spectacular 30-yard strike then doubled the lead midway through the first half.

Any lingering hopes of a comeback from the League Two side seemed to end when Kelvin Mellor received a second booking in the 65th minute for a rash challenge.

Burnley 2 Bristol City 0

STEVEN DEFOUR must have thought he was on the golf course after scoring a sand wedge of a goal which finally bunkered battling Bristol City.

It took a fabulous finish from the Belgian to finally silence a slick

City side who refused to lie down and die after eight league defeats on the bounce.

Burnley hadn’t made it beyond the fourth round since 2011 but Sam Vokes put them on their way with a neat goal on the stroke of half time to give Clarets boss Sean Dyche victory over his old club.

Rochdale 0 Huddersfield 4

German striker Collin Quaner marked his Huddersfield debut with  a goal as they cruised past Rochdale at Spotland.

Quaner, signed from Union Berlin last week, knocked home an Isaiah Brown cross five minutes from the break before Brown’s penalty and two late strikes from substitute Michael Hefele wrapped up victory.

But ultimately David Wagner’s  men proved just too strong with  a polished second-half display highlighted by Quamer, whose swift counter-attack set up the fourth and final goal for Hefele.

Oxford 3 Newcastle 0

Oxford caused a major upset by thumping Championship high-flyers Newcastle at the Kassam Stadium.

Kane Hemmings put the League One outfit in front two minutes into the second half.

Aleksandar Mitrovic passed up the chance to equalise on 67 minutes when his penalty was saved by goalkeeper Simon Eastwood, before further home goals from Curtis Nelson and Toni Martinez sealed the shock result.
