Alexis Sanchez has been nominated for the PFA Player of the Year award (via ), but how does our summer signing stand up against the rest of the candidates?
Sanchez has been named alongside Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho, Manchester United shot-stopper David de Gea, Tottenham striker Harry Kane, and Chelsea duo Diego Costa.
Liverpool have enjoyed an excellent second half of the season, and after struggling early on they looked capable of clawing their way into the Champions League positions. Despite that no longer looking the case, Coutinho was still a huge part of their fine form.
De Gea has been outstanding this season, and was almost solely responsible for United staying in the race for the top four. He has arguably been the best keeper in Europe this campaign, and there is no telling where Louis van Gaal’s side would have been without him.
The Tottenham striker is the current top scorer in the Premier League, and has been the surprise package of the season. The newly capped England international has single-handedly put points on the board for Mauricio Pochettino’s side, and has definitely been one of the standout performers this campaign.
The former Atletico Madrid star hit the Premier League like a freight train, and looked to be guaranteed the Golden Boot. He has been plagued by injuries however, and has failed to recapture the goalscoring form he showed at the start of the season.
The Belgian has been performing solidly throughout the season, and while he hasn’t hit the heights of Costa and Kane in terms of goalscoring, he has continually stood out in Jose Mourinho’s side. He is arguably the only player in the list who hasn’t suffered a dip in form at some point in the season, and has helped the Blues remain atop the table.

Sanchez was fantastic at the start of the season, and his 14 goals and 8 assists in the Premier League kept us competitive in the early goings. He has tailed off in 2015 however, and has suffered something of a goal drought by his lofty standards.
He is clearly suffering from the hectic schedule of the Premier League, as in La Liga and Serie A he was used to having a winter break. His second half of the season dip may cost him the Player of the Year award, as players like Hazard and de Gea have kept their performances high throughout.
I would love to see Sanchez win it this season, but unfortunately I can’t see it happening. He looks to be perfectly suited to the English game however, and will surely be a candidate in future seasons.
