Schalke and Dortmund not Sami Khedira's only options - Horst Heldt

Schalke and Borussia Dortmund are currently being linked with Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira.

Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira has "quite a few other options" if he does not want to join Schalke this summer, the German club's sporting director, Horst Heldt, has told Sport Bild.

However, the Royal Blues have fallen out of contention for the Champions League places in recent weeks, having won just one of their last nine Bundesliga games, and now face a battle just to qualify for the Europa League.

Borussia Dortmund, Schalke's arch-rivals, have recently been linked with the player, with having previously coached Khedira at the Stuttgart academy.

Former Mainz head coach Thomas Tuchel will replace Jurgen Klopp at Borussia Dortmund this summer.

However, Heldt said the 28-year-old -- who was linked with the likes of Bayern Munich and Arsenal earlier this season -- will have more lucrative offers from other clubs.

"He will not wait until June to make his decision," Heldt said. "If he's only interested in the money, he will not join Schalke or Dortmund, should they really want him. He has quite a few other options."
