Blog - Transfer Talk Arsenal, Man City target Real Madrid's Isco to spearhead Premier League tilt

Real Madrid star Isco would be welcomed to the Premier League with open arms...
Premier League transfer spending set a new 760 million pound record.

Both Arsenal and Manchester City have made a habit of targeting talented Spaniards in recent seasons, and now the Premier League heavyweights look set to go toe-to-toe for .

The reports that Real Madrid will consider bids of around £35 million for the 22-year-old Spain international, with Carlo Ancelotti's side reportedly pursuing a deal for either Paul Pogba from Juventus or Paris Saint-Germain's Marco Verratti as a dominant midfield presence.

Isco has shone for this term, but Real have shown in recent seasons that they are not averse to losing top players if it helps with restructuring the team. If the Champions League holders are open to offers, the paper reports that both the Gunners and City are expected to make a move to land Isco in order to challenge Chelsea next term.

Football agents have (for better or worse) made themselves an integral part of the modern-day transfer merry-go-round, and agent Dimitri Seluk has poured the fuel, lit the fuse and then thrown a grenade at the fire of speculation burning regarding a Manchester City exit for the midfielder.

Seluk -- never a shy man -- told the : "Some people at City are trying to blame Yaya for what has happened this season. But those people aren't taking responsibility for their own mistakes.

"I am talking about executives who have bought players for a lot of money -- and then put those players on the bench. I feel sorry for [Manuel] Pellegrini. He is a good coach, but a weak manager."

Not exactly a dream for City's PR department, but applause of some distorted form must surely go to Seluk for practically shoving his client out of the Etihad exit door -- an agent's gotta do what an agent's gotta do.

Inter Milan head coach Roberto Mancini has said he would exploit any opportunity to sign Yaya Toure, should the Ivorian express a desire to leave current club Manchester City.

A well-placed source that will not sign a new Liverpool contract this season and will instead wait to see what offers come his way this summer, and it could become even worse for the Reds.

The reports that the 20-year-old forward could buy out the final year of his contract -- which runs until 2017 -- next summer for around £1.7 million, which could have a big impact on any potential transfer valuation this summer.

With the Mail estimating Sterling to be worth around £50 million, the paper suggests that the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City could make offers of just £25 million to try and land the England international on the cheap.

Liverpool are refusing to blink over the contract negotiations and it would be a surprise to see an Anfield academy graduate take on the club in such a brazen manner, but the threat of a contract buy-out may give Brendan Rodgers a huge decision to make once the offers come rolling in.

Louis van Gaal may having a striking conundrum on his hands next season: the futures of Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao are up for debate, and on the basis of Saturday's defeat at Chelsea, the manager has evidently not given up hope of Wayne Rooney becoming a defensive midfielder.

With that in mind, the reports that the Dutch coach is considering a move for Aston Villa striker . Van Gaal was impressed by the Belgium international's battling ability in the Villans' recent trip to Old Trafford, and the 24-year-old would offer United a more physical, aerial presence up front than they current have.

Benteke would surely find Champions League football hard to turn down, and Villa could do with an injection of cash to help Tim Sherwood rebuild the squad. All signs point to a deal -- if the rumour is correct, of course.

Sterling was warmly applauded upon leaving the pitch in Liverpool's home victory on Monday.

Despite creating 10 goals in his debut Premier League campaign, life in Manchester has been anything but rosy. Still, the reports that the Argentina international is determined to stay at United beyond this summer, and is in discussions to extend a city centre apartment he is currently leasing.

The midfielder and his family are living in the apartment following an , but the paper reports that the Di Marias are now settled in their new home, and that Van Gaal is impressed with the former Real Madrid star's attitude.

Di Maria failed to start against Chelsea on Saturday, but will undoubtedly be a big part of the coach's plans for next season if he decides Manchester is the right place for him. That could all change, however, if a certain Parisian club comes calling...

One player that may be leaving Old Trafford -- albeit briefly -- is . It is no secret that Manchester United are considering loaning out the young striker to gain Premier League experience, and the reports that Newcastle are interested in signing the 19-year-old on a temporary spell for the 2015-16 season.

ESPN FC's Stewart Robson gives his opinion on who Arsenal need to sign to contend for a Premier League title.

With the emergence of Hector Bellerin at right-back this season, Arsenal have the luxury of being able to let leave the club this summer despite his impressive form on loan at West Ham.

Those performances have caught the eye of Liverpool, according to the , but the paper reports that the 23-year-old will snub any Anfield advances and instead opt for a permanent deal with the Hammers.

The player himself says "the ball is in Arsenal's court" regarding a transfer, but Jenkinson could be blowing bubbles for some time to come.

- The reports that Newcastle will make a £4 million move for Wigan midfielder if Steve McClaren takes over on Tyneside this summer. The fact that the 25-year-old formerly played for Sunderland should spice that deal up somewhat.

- could be set for the chop at Aston Villa this summer, but the reports that Garry Monk is set to offer £4 million to bring the 25-year-old midfielder to Swansea.

- Tottenham and Everton are set to do the equivalent of playground sticker swapping this summer, with the reporting that Spurs will try to tempt the Toffees into parting company with by offering -- currently on loan at Goodison Park and keeping Mirallas out of the side -- on a permanent deal.

We can only but imagine if the move goes through...

Meanwhile, Roberto Martinez may face a battle to keep hold of this summer, with the reporting that PSG, Wolfsburg and Borussia Dortmund are all after the 21-year-old striker.

- Though Steve McClaren has been linked with a host of other jobs, the quotes the Derby manager as being keen on keeping Hull loanee at the Rams next season -- read into that what you will.
