Victor Wanyama: Arsenal want to sign me this summer

ESPN FC's Stewart Robson gives his opinion on who Arsenal need to sign to contend for a Premier League title.

Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama has told  that Arsenal want to sign him this summer.

Kenya international Wanyama, 23, has played a starring role alongside Morgan Schneiderlin in the Southampton midfield this season as Ronald Koeman's side have defied preseason expectations to challenge for a place in Europe.

However, they are expected to lose several key stars this summer, and Wanyama -- a -- has said Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has expressed an interest in his services.

"Wenger has been talking about me, and he has let it be known he would like to sign me this summer," he said. "Arsenal are a great club and I'd love to play Champions League football as I loved being on that stage with Celtic.

"But we've had a fantastic season at Saints and I want to stay focused on helping the club qualify for Europe. Then we'll see where I end up in the summer."

Victor Wanyama has enjoyed another impressive season with Southampton.

Tottenham, now coached by former Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino, are also reported to be interested, and Wanyama is not ruling out the possibility he could work under the Argentine again.

"If I get the chance, maybe," he said. "You never know what will happen in the future. It's nice to be linked with other clubs as it means I'm playing well."

Southampton, currently seventh in the Premier League, also face a battle to hold onto Schneiderlin and Nathaniel Clyne this summer, with sources telling ESPN FC that.

Saints saw Luke Shaw, Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren and Rickie Lambert leave last year after finishing eighth under Pochettino.
