Improved bid for Bundesliga midfielder imminent from Arsenal

Arsene Wenger is known to be a fan of Borussia Dortmund’s Ilkay Gundogan, and  state that after having a £18.4 million bid rejected in January, we are set to go back in with an improved offer.

The German star has been tipped to leave the Westfalenstadion this summer, with the midfielder turning down an extension to his deal with the Bundesliga side, as reported by .

With talkSPORT noting only one year remains on Gundogan’s deal beyond this season, we are hoping to capitalise on his current contract situation, but we’ve already seen a fairly hefty bid turned down. A new bid may be imminent, but the amount hasn’t been clarified as of yet.

Dortmund have been struggling this season, and despite a late revival they have already failed to make the Champions League. As a consequence they could potentially see a mass exodus from the club, with a number of players already becoming accustomed to a certain level of competition.

Gundogan is unquestionably a fantastic talent, and would be an excellent acquisition. He is arguably not what we need at all however, as we are well stocked with playmakers and box-to-box midfielders.

It’s difficult to see where we would fit the 24-year-old in, and he would no doubt be unsatisfied with a place on the bench.
