Hector Bellerin not planning on letting Mathieu Debuchy back into starting XI

Hector Bellerin has thanked his Arsenal teammates for their support recently, and suggests that he plans to keep Mathieu Debuchy out of the side, reports .

The young Spaniard has been superb this season, and has filled the shoes left by our injured first-choice right-back brilliantly. He claims his “family” at the Emirates have helped up a huge amount, and thanked them for his ability to grab the chance he has been given.

“The back-up of the players we have makes you look good as well,” he said.

“They have helped me since the beginning and are my family.

“They have been young players as well so they help you in everything they can. They make you feel like one more in the dressing room. We are lucky in this club, we young players get the opportunities and it is important when you get them that you need to take them.”

Debuchy is back in training after a spell on the sidelines with a dislocated shoulder, which came after several months out with an ankle injury. He may find it difficult to reclaim his starting spot however, with Bellerin performing out of his skin.

Without stating it outright, the 20-year-old has hinted that he intends to keep hold of the right-back position. He may well be able to if he keeps playing the way he has been, but one slip and the Frenchman could be right back in.

“Now we are going to have Debuchy back and I am happy for him, but when you get your chance, you need to do the best you can. I have done my best to take this opportunity.

“I am happy that now, after not so good performances in the beginning, the coach has still put confidence in me and given me minutes.”

The competition should push both players to be better, with Bellerin looking like the long-term successor to the former Newcastle man – whose Arsenal career has so far yet to get going because of injuries
