Man Utd target Marquinhos wants to stay at PSG for 'a long time'

After PSG defender Marquinhos was linked with a move to Manchester United, manager Laurent Blanc has issued a hands-off warning to the Red Devils over the Brazilian.

Manchester United target Marquinhos has told he hopes "to stay in Paris a long time" after coming good on his potential at Paris Saint-Germain.

Marquinhos, 20, arrived at the Parc des Princes in a €31.4 million move from Roma, where he had spent just a single season, with the sizeable transfer fee a measure of his promise.

Since, the defender has not only established himself as part of Laurent Blanc's squad, but also forced his way into the Brazil national side after a number of commanding displays.

Though reportedly Marquinhos through to 2019 late last month, and sees his future in the French capital.

Premier League transfer spending set a new 760 million pound record.

"The project is magnificent, and I'm really very happy to be part of it," said the Sao Paulo born defender. "The club is very ambitious. I hope to stay in Paris a long time to experience a lot of great things."

When Alex left PSG last summer, Marquinhos was promoted to first-choice back-up to Thiago Silva and David Luiz, but has also been used successfully at right-back.

Luiz was in PSG's squad to face Barcelona in Wednesday's Champions League quarterfinal first leg, despite reportedly being sidelined for a month after sustaining a thigh injury in his team's league win over Marseille 10 days ago.

However, Marquinhos remains favourite to partner Thiago Silva at kick-off, even if he is happy to play wherever he is required.

"Competition for places exists in every club in the world. I prefer to play in the middle, as a centre-back. But I am available if I'm needed, on the right or in midfield," said Marquinhos, who has featured in 19 of PSG's 31 league games so far.

"The season is very long with a lot of matches and the coach needs everyone. Since I arrived in Paris, I have had the ambition of improving in every game and training session."
