Yohan Cabaye is reportedly back on Arsenal’s transfer radar, with Gunners boss Arsene Wenger lining up a £10m summer move for the 29-year-old Paris Saint Germain playmaker.
Reports in the explain that we targeted the player while he was at Newcastle, even submitting a £10m bid during the summer of 2013, only for him to move to the French capital the following January.
Laurent Blanc’s side paid the Magpies £15.5m for the midfielder but have since been left disappointed with his levels of performance. He’s been in and out of the side and generally used as a substitute, starting just ten times this term.
Now it seems that PSG are willing to let him go, with Cabaye starting to make noises over wanting more first-team football.
There’s little to guarantee that he would get that here at the Emirates Stadium, although Wenger’s long-term admiration for the player could be enough to convince him to come.
With question marks over the futures of Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini (via ), he would certainly be the ideal man to rival Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey and Francis Coquelin for a role in the middle of the park.
Cabaye is technically gifted, can pass the ball off either foot, and is deadly from set-pieces. Whether he’d get to take a free-kick with Mesut Ozil and Santi Cazorla about though is another matter.
