Arsene Wenger has responded to rumours linking Arsenal with Raheem Sterling following reports the Liverpool man has refused to sign a new contract with his club.

The 20-year-old England international hit the headlines yesterday with a move we’ve seen all too often before at Arsenal (*cough* Robin van Persie *cough*) when he conducted an interview with the denying his contract impasse at Anfield was due to money and even described reports linking with a move to the Emirates as “flattering.”
He will likely play for the Reds this weekend when they visit north London to play Arsenal, barring a slight toe issue, but when questioned about Sterling in his pre-match press conference, Arsene Wenger refused to be drawn on any supposed interest.
“Sterling is a top player,” Wenger is quoted as saying by the .
“I don’t want to get involved in that just 48 hours before game.”
With Theo Walcott’s contract negotiations continuing to rumble on and seemingly with no end in sight, there has been some suggestion of a potential swap deal between the two clubs for Sterling and the Arsenal man.
Walcott is reportedly a target of Brendan Rodgers and the Reds could try to sign him if they are unable to tie down Sterling to a new deal according to the .
This led to speculation from the that Walcott could head up the M57 with a large briefcase full of cash whilst Sterling heads down to the capital – though it’s hard to think the timing of the transfer rumour is anything but a bit too convenient to be true.
Wenger obviously hasn’t ruled out the deal, and Sterling is no doubt a tremendous player, but it’s a long way from fruition at the moment.
