Jack Wilshere linked with surprise Arsenal exit as Man City plot English revolution

Jack Wilshere is Arsenal through and through, but the England international has been linked with a surprise move to Manchester City this summer, according to the .

The reigning Premier League champions have somewhat collapsed in the second half of the season, and have gradually seen themselves fall away from league leaders Chelsea.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side have gone from being touted as the only team capable of catching the Blues, to being a fourth placed side behind both Arsenal and local rivals Manchester United.

The Citizens are believed to be planning some major restructuring come the end of the campaign, says the report, with bringing more home grown and English players to the club their main aim. Wilshere is among those they are targeting, with Liverpool duo Jordan Henderson and Raheem Sterling also being considered, the Mail reckons.

They currently have Frank Lampard, Joe Hart and James Milner on their books, but with Milner’s contract up in the summer and Lampard heading to MLS, they could be left seriously lacking in homegrown talent.

Wilshere has struggled for first team football at times, but it has largely been down to his injury record rather than his talent. Arsene Wenger has strived to fit the 23-year-old into the side whenever he’s been fit, arguably to the detriment of the team on occasion.

It’s hard to see us letting him go, despite the fact that with the form Mesut Özil, Santi Cazorla and Aaron Ramsey are showing, he almost certainly won’t be first choice on his return to action.

It’s also difficult to see him accepting a potential City offer, as the young Gunner is one of the most loyal players in the squad.

You obviously have to take everything a professional footballer says with a pinch of salt, but Wilshere once claimed that he had no need for an agent, as he would never leave Arsenal (via ).

What do you think Gooners? Is there even the slightest chance that Wilshere will leave?
