Arsene Wenger and Olivier Giroud have been awarded the Premier League Manager and Player of the Month awards respectively, according to .
The win comes with the added spice that Giroud stopped Tottenham striker Harry Kane from achieving the unprecedented feat of winning the Player of the Month award three times in a row.
It’s been a brilliant turnaround in form for the Frenchman since his tearing out your hair, crying in the foetal position performance against AS Monaco in the 3-1 defeat at the Emirates towards the end of February.
Since then, Giroud has managed five goals in four consecutive Premier League matches, scoring the openers in every March fixture.
The 28-year-old hit the back of the net against West Ham, QPR, Everton and twice against Newcastle.
Giroud’s brilliant purple-patch came at a time when Arsene Wenger seemed to discover the right balance in the team, truly for the first time this season.
It’s therefore no surprise he’s won the managerial gong, with Arsenal taking the maximum 12 points from 12 on offer and boosting their league position so that they are now just one point behind Man City in second place.
Giroud’s excellent form continued when Liverpool visited the Emirates today in a decisive, Champions League qualification bout, scoring the last goal and showing his class.
As for Wenger, our manager’s tactical prowess is often doubted, but Aaron Ramsey’s deployment on the right flank against Liverpool allowed Mesut Ozil the space to dictate the game early on, and the boss’ orders for a high press were the perfect plan to destroy Liverpool’s weakened defence.
