Swedish newspaper Zlatan Ibrahimovic as applied for a long-term visa for the United States, fuelling speculation he will move to MLS.
Paris Saint-Germain striker Ibrahimovic, 33, reportedly went to the U.S. embassy in Paris on March 19 to apply for the visa, which the Swede would not require if he were only visiting the country as a tourist.
"We cannot comment on individual cases," Aftonbladet cites a U.S. embassy official as stating, though added the same official confirmed Ibrahimovic had been to the embassy.
The paper reported the former Juventus and Barcelona forward posed for photographs and signed autographs for fans during the 30-40 minute visit, which -- according to the report -- would usually take up to an hour-and-a-half.
Aftonbladet added Ibrahimovic may also need the visa to pursue his commercial interests on the opposite side of the Atlantic.
A central figure in the ambitions of PSG's owners to transform the club into a European heavyweight, Ibrahimovic signed a one-year contract extension two years ago, taking him through to 2016 at the Parc des Princes.
PSG would be his last major European club, and admitted in an interview earlier this season the success of his former Barca teammate Thierry Henry with the New York Red Bulls could tempt him into an MLS move.
"It's a question a lot of journalists ask me. I still have two years on my contract," Ibrahimovic said. "Let's see what state I'm in at that time, and if the opportunity is still there.
"I will really think about it, I find the American challenge really interesting, because my friend Thierry Henry plays there and he's fantastic there.
"He says good things about the MLS, so that could be interesting if the opportunity comes up again in two or three years."
Earlier this month, the PSG star could carry on playing into his early forties after the pair struck a deal.
