Bordeaux keen to sign Lyon star Yoann Gourcuff at end of season

Yoann Gourcuff has struggled to live up to his promise.

Bordeaux have revealed that they would love to help former star Yoann Gourcuff resurrect his career with them.

Gourcuff, 28, emerged as the new great hope of French football with his brilliant contribution to Bordeaux's Ligue 1 title win of 2008-09.

The French international midfielder moved to Lyon in 2010 in a €22 million switch that many believed would see him, and his new club, rule Ligue 1.

However, Gourcuff has been beset by injuries at Stade Gerland and has featured in just 90 league games for the seven-time Ligue 1 champions.

Speaking to , Nicolas de Tavernost, president of TV channel M6, which owns Bordeaux, said Gourcuff, who is out of contract in June, would be welcome back at the club he served so wonderfully.

"Gourcuff is a player we appreciate a lot in Bordeaux. He's someone who has left great memories at our place. If he's available at the end of the season, we'll look at that closely," De Tavernost said.

Gourcuff's €450,000 monthly salary may be a stumbling block but De Tavernost believes the club could tempt the midfielder to return.

"Of course, it has to be financially possible. For him to come back to us, it has to work both economically and in the sporting sense. And also that he holds up physically," he added. "But he knows that at Bordeaux we have quite a lot of good points: a great stadium, great fans and a good atmosphere. That's not nothing."
