Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka has dismissed speculation linking him with a move to Atletico Madrid.

Xhaka, 22, has been one of Monchengladbach's key players this season, with the club currently on course to qualify for the Champions League group stage for the first time.

The Switzerland international, who arrived from Basel in 2012, , with the option of a further year. According to recent media reports, the deal includes a €20 million release clause which can be activated from 2017.

When signing the deal, Xhaka, who was linked with a move to Italy during his first two years in Germany, said that "there was never any doubt that I would extend my contract."

His recent performances for both club and country, however, have reportedly brought him to the attention of Atletico coach Diego Simeone, who has made the midfielder a transfer target, according to Sport Bild.

"I have also heard about this. But I don't want to busy myself with it right now and only want to focus on my tasks here at Gladbach," Xhaka told Sport Bild when asked about the Spanish champions' reported interest.

Sport Bild claims that Atletico are ready to bid €25 million for Xhaka, while adding that there has already been contact between club representatives and Ragip Xhaka -- the player's father and agent.
