Andre-Pierre Gignac's agent has insisted the France international will wait for a clear signal from Marseille before deciding on his future.
Only Lyon's Alexandre Lacazette has scored more league goals than Gignac in the French top flight this season, but his 18 strikes so far for OM's cause could be among his last for the club.
Out of contract in the summer and with Marseille unable to offer him a salary approaching the €330,000-a-month he currently receives, Gignac is poised to leave the club he joined from Toulouse in 2010.
However, his representative, Jean-Christophe Cano, told Gignac, a boyhood Marseille fan, is still waiting for the Ligue 1 title challengers' president Vincent Labrune to decide what he wants to do before seeking fresh pastures.
"I have a very good relationship with Vincent Labrune, and I regret not having had the chance to talk to him since October," Cano said. "More than his commitment in sporting terms, out of respect for the club, he's waiting to know OM's position in his regard before taking a decision on his future."
Gignac has previously said he may stay at the Stade Velodrome, despite the club having made it clear he will have to lower his wages to do so.
"If he wishes to extend his contract and he is willing to lower his wages, we'll happily meet him to talk," Labrune told L'Equipe, but suggested such an outcome would be unlikely with Gignac's future long since decided.
"Jean-Christophe Cano is right, we haven't spoken since October for the simple and good reason that Andre-Pierre's departure was decided upon in autumn 2013."
L'Equipe reported Gignac met Labrune as well as then-sporting director Jose Anigo and former coach Elie Baup at the time, and came to an agreement not to focus on contract talks until the end of his deal.
Gignac's former Marseille teammate he thought the striker would leave OM this summer, while Valbuena's club, Dinamo Moscow, have admitted an interest in the forward.
Last week, reported ; a claim denied by Cano, who sent a message to OM's demanding fans that their hero would only leave with the heaviest of hearts.
"It's false as there has been no exchange with his bosses," the agent said, referring to the Dinamo deal. "Would Andre-Pierre like to stay at OM? Yes, certainly. Will he stay at OM? I don't know for the moment.
"But whatever his future, the most important thing is to underline his deep attachment to the club. We will let no-one fuel the idea Andre-Pierre voluntarily arrived at this situation with his contract."
