Xavi Hernandez can decide his Barcelona future - Josep Bartomeu

Barcelona manager Luis Enrique says the club value the contribution of its longest serving player Xavi, but will respect his decision to stay or go at the end of the season.

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has said Xavi Hernandez has "earned the right" to decide whether he stays with the club next season.

Xavi, 35, is widely expected to leave the Camp Nou in the summer, with Qatari side Al Sadd reported to have already agreed terms with the former Spain star.

However, the player , and Bartomeu said he could yet stay at Barca for another campaign.

"I know that he went on a trip with his family and his wife, but there is nothing," he said in .

"He knows that he can decide to stay for another year or leave -- he has earned that right and it's his decision. Whatever he decides, it will be fine."

Xavi has fallen down the pecking order this season, but came off the substitutes' bench after 58 minutes to help Barca to a over Celta Vigo on Sunday, and Bartomeu said: "He is always necessary.

"He is the best midfielder in the club's history -- essential. He always plays well when he's sent out. He is very important for us. There was a certain change when he entered [the match]. It was evident that he brought the freshness that the team needed."

Xavi helped Barcelona to victory over Celta Vigo on Sunday.

Barcelona boss Luis Enrique said he would also be open to retaining Xavi next season.

In December, Xavi told Sport that but was glad he stayed and wanted to do so until his contract expired in 2016.

Luis Enrique, who played alongside Xavi at the Camp Nou prior to his retirement in 2004, told a : "I've already said what I had to say about that: Xavi is the most important player in the history of the club and he's still under contract.

"We also thought he'd leave last season but he stayed on, which was great news for us. He is focused on this final stage of the campaign.

"Whatever he decides to do will be accepted by all of us. As for recognition, he's already earned that himself."
