Bergkamp’s Latest Comments Opens Door To Arsenal Role

Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkamp has refused to rule out working abroad as a coach or a manager in the future, but insists he is happy at Ajax at the moment.

The Dutchman is currently the assistant manager of the Eredivisie side working alongside head coach Peter Bosz, who replaced Frank De Boer in the summer, and has been there since 2011.

Bergkamp won three Premier League titles and four FA Cups during his time with the Gunners, scoring 120 goals along the way, to cement his status as one of the club’s greatest ever players.

He has now indicated he could be tempted to work abroad with Arsenal potentially set to begin their search for a new manager should Arsene Wenger step down at the end of the season when his contract expires.

“At the moment I’m happy in my role at Ajax,” he told FIFA’s official website. “I have a say in sporting terms and in policy making.

“Besides this I like being on the training pitch with the first team and helping the players improve, so at the moment I’m happy.

“Though I won’t rule out making a move to another country and working abroad in the future, either as a coach or in another staff position.”

Bergkamp’s comments are likely to excite fans with Wenger’s future still uncertain although he has today seemingly ruled himself out of taking on the England job.

The Dutch legend has long been tipped as a future Arsenal manager and would be warmly welcomed should he return to the club.
