Thierry Henry has revealed just why Mesut Ozil and Theo Walcott are scoring so many goals for Arsenal this season and has explained it is all down to Alexis Sanchez.
The Chile international has been moved to a central role this season to great success, scoring six goals while Walcott is the team’s top scorer with eight in all competitions.
Ozil has also chipped in with six, including his first senior hat-trick last week against Ludogorets in the Champions League, and Henry says that Sanchez deserves the credit for their success.
“He did it for Udinese also in Italy and does it ever so well,” Henry said according to The Metro.
“When you have a guy who as a No.9, the way he puts pressure, the way he moves, his vision for the ball, that creates a lot of holes for Ozil. That’s why Ozil is scoring a lot of goals – off the movement of Alexis Sanchez.
“Ozil can now go and make those runs as a No.10. Theo [Walcott] is scoring a lot of goals also because there’s a lot of movement.
“I think Arsene [Wenger] did it pretty well and I think the reason why Arsenal are doing well so far during this season is because Alexis is playing up there and making all those movements to create a lot of space for Ozil.”
Arsenal’s fine form has seen them shrug off a slow start to move level on points at the top of the table with Manchester City. Only Pep Guardiola’s side and Liverpool have scored more goals than the Gunners this season in the Premier League.
The Gunners will be hoping the duo’s scoring form continues and they will have the perfect opportunity on Saturday when they travel to the Stadium of Light to take on the Premier League’s bottom side Sunderland.
