Revealed: Why Star Turned Down Arsenal For Manchester United

Henrikh Mkhitaryan reportedly agreed a move to Arsenal in the summer before changing his mind and instead heading to Manchester United, according to the Daily Mail.

The report claims the Armenia international was all set to move to the Emirates before Jose Mourinho’s men agreed an extra £7 million to sign him from Borussia Dortmund.

Mkhitaryan also believed the Red Devils’ need for a midfielder like him was greater than Arsenal’s and that he would therefore enjoy more playing time at Old Trafford than the Emirates.

Before his move, the Armenia international was widely regarded as one of the finest players in the Bundesliga after playing a key role for Borussia Dortmund.

His move to Manchester United was widely hailed as a masterstroke by Mourinho yet the 27-year-old has barely featured during his time in the Premier League.

Indeed his last start for the club came back in September when he lasted just 45 minutes of the derby defeat to Manchester City before being replaced at half-time after a poor showing.

Mkhitaryan appears no closer to a starting role at United, who are struggling for form in the Premier League having fallen six points behind joint leaders Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool.

Indeed the 27-year-old’s stock has fallen to such an extent that has already been linked with a move away from Manchester United despite only joining the club a little over three months ago.

Having struggled to adapt to life United it would be no surprise if Mkhitaryan was having second thoughts over his decision to move to Manchester United over Arsenal, particularly with the Gunners six points above and with Champions League __football to enjoy this season.
