Arsenal are weighing up a move for £30million-rated Roma defender Kostas Manolas, according to Calciomercato.

The Gunners are reportedly looking to take advantage of the Greek star's current contract situation.

Manolas is contracted to the Serie A club until the summer of 2019 but has allegedly snubbed a new deal which has alerted some of Europe's top clubs.

Arsenal were linked with Manolas in the summer before they signed Shkodran Mustafi in his position, but with Per Mertesacker still injured and Gabriel not fancied, they could swoop again.

Bellerin on if Barcelona called

Arsenal fans - put your minds to rest. Hector Bellerin is not going back to Barcelona. Or so he says, writes Mirror Football's James Whaling.

The Barca-born right-back came through the youth system at the Nou Camp and has been linked with a return to the Catalans.

However, when asked what he would do if Barcelona came calling right now, he responded: "I wouldn't pick up the phone!"

Manchester City are also reportedly interested in the 21-year-old flier, who has established himself as a key member of Arsene Wenger's side.

Neither Ozil (right) or Sanchez (left) made the cut

Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil has been omitted from the 30-man shortlist for this year's Ballon d'Or award, writes Mirror Football's James Whaling.

The German has been in sparkling form for the Gunners, but he was left off the list of players in the running for the gong which crowns the best player in the world.

Ozil has started the season in fine fettle, netting three times in the Premier League to help Arsenal to joint top of the table and enjoyed a productive second half to the last campaign.

The 28-year-old hit a hat-trick as Arsenal hammered Ludogorets 6-0 in their last Champions League outing.

Despite his and teammate Alexis Sanchez's omission, there are eight Premier League players to make the shortlist, including Leicester and England striker Jamie Vardy, who is the sole English representative.

Gunners hopeful Wenger will stay

Arsenal hope Wenger will continue to lead them

Arsenal are hopeful that Arsene Wenger will stay on as manager beyond this season, but have admitted that there are no immediate plans to open contract talks, writes Mirror Football's Joe Mewis.

The Frenchman's current deal expires at the end of this season, but the club want him to extend his 20-year spell in north London.

The matter of Wenger's contract was raised during the club's AGM on Monday, with Gunners chairman Sir Chips Keswick expressing his desire to secure the manager's future.

"We all recognise the fantastic contribution Arsene has made to the club in last 20 years," he said.

"We are confident about his ability to take us forward.

"We will sit down and discuss the future at the appropriate time but our focus is on maintaining the current run and competing for trophies."

Wenger sets title points target

Wenger is hopeful his side are now good enough to challenge for the title again

A new contract offer appears to be forthcoming for Arsene Wenger - and the Frenchman is bullish about landing a first Premier League title since 2004 too, writes Mirror Football's Adrian Kajumba.

Wenger reckons it will take a maximum of 86 points to win the league this season.

That is 15 points more than Arsenal managed last season when they finished as runners-up, 10 points behind champions Leicester.

It would also be their highest total since their last title triumph 12 years ago, secured with 90 points, but Wenger reckons Arsenal are better placed than they have been for some years to fight for the title.

Addressing the club’s AGM on Monday, Wenger said: “Today we are in a much more competitive position than five, six years ago to fight for the championship.

“I believe we have a competitive team in a very competitive league and if you look well after nine games now you can see the first trend is set.

“It is about 20 points that means the championship will be decided between 82 to 86 points.”
