Ozil Held Transfer Talks With Fenerbahce

Mesut Ozil has reportedly held talks with Fenerbahce over a potential move during a recent trip to Turkey, according to Hurriyet.

The report claims the Germany international took a short trip to Istanbul where he met club officials to discuss a move to the club in the future.

Ozil’s future is currently the subject of much speculation with the World Cup winner yet to agree a contract extension with the Gunners.

The 28-year-old’s current deal expires in 2018 and Arsene Wenger has admitted he wants Ozil to stay and is confident the Emirates is the right place for him to continue his career.

Ozil has enjoyed a stellar start to the season with the Gunners. He has already scored six goals, including his first senior hat-trick in the 6-0 thrashing of Ludogorets in the Champions League.

This is not the first time Ozil has been linked with Fenerbahce and he has reportedly previously admitted to being a fan of the club and stated he wants to play for the Turkish giants one day.

Fenerbahce who are currently fifth in the Super Lig with 12 points, eight off top spot, are now plotting how to bring the Germany international to Turkey.

While Ozil may well be interested in a move to Fenerbahce at some point in his career it seems unlikely he would chose to move to Turkey, which would be widely considered a step down, at the moment while he is still at the peak of his powers.

Indeed it would seem more likely that any move to Fenerbahce would come towards the end of his career. However, with Ozil yet to agree a contract extension speculation over his future is only likely to continue.
