Positive Theo Walcott hoping a few club secrets can get the new England era off to a good start

Theo Walcott admits he has shared a few Arsenal secrets with his England team-mates in a bid to help the Three Lions off to a winning start.

The Gunners forward, 27, will start against Malta this afternoon - his first game for his country since playing against Estonia 12 months ago.

Since being left out of the Euros, Walcott has enjoyed a resurgence this season with five goals in eight appearances for his club.

He has now suggested he has offered his international team-mates ways to get the best out of him in similar fashion.

He said: “We want to make this like a club basically. We want everyone to have the relationships they have with who they’re at clubs with. That’s what we’re starting to get with this England team.

“I’ve probably given a few of my secrets away to my team-mates this week but it’s going to benefit England. That’s what we want, it’s all about England this week.

“We need to be positive, we’re going to be positive. Everyone’s in a good frame of mind.”

Walcott also says the England players are ready to respond to Gareth Southgate’s call for them to be brave and express themselves in an England shirt after their Euros humiliation against Iceland.

He added: “You can see there’s a change. The group is tight, but a few members are starting to come out and step up.

“When a few do that, you get more who want to be like that, be better than that. We train like that at the moment.

“You can see, even though they’re young, there are a lot of players in the Premier League playing at a consistently high level.

“We’ll be judged on results, but it’s about having that confidence behind you that we can be brave. I look forward to being part of this England team."
