Arsene Wenger: Why I was pleased with this Arsenal star against West Brom Arsenal's potential January ins and outs

ARSENE WENGER revealed his delight for Olivier Giroud after Arsenal's win over West Brom.

Giroud, who was making his first Premier League start of the season for Arsenal, hit the only goal of the game against the Baggies as the Gunners secured a 1-0 victory.

The Frenchman has had to play second fiddle to Alexis Sanchez this term, who has spearheaded the Gunners' attack.

Tony Pulis' men were very plucky and looked to be heading for an unlikely point.

But Giroud kept his nerve and looped home a header from Mesut Ozil's cross four minutes from time.

And Wenger admits he was pleased at how Giroud responded at the Emirates.

He said: "It has been an interesting period for the player and these are important to see how they cope.
