Analysis from our reporter Richard Tanner, at Old Trafford.

United are gathering impressive momentum. This was a fifth straight win, topped off by an extraordinary goal by Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

The Armenian produced a sublime volleyed back heel flick to convert Ibrahimovic's cross. It was his third goal in his last three appearances and all have been top quality finishes.

A few minutes earlier Ibrahimovic had killed the game with United's second - his 50th goal of the calendar year of 2016 - 33 for PSG and 17 for United.

Borini netted a fine consolation for Sunderland in added time to ruin United's hopes of clean sheet but it came too late to make any difference.

Ultimately an unhappy first return to Old Trafford David Moyes, but despite the score line, he will reflect that Sunderland will probably play far worse than this and win games this season.

FT: MANCHESTER UNITED 3 - 1 SUNDERLAND

Manchester United have crushed Sunderland in the end with two more goals in the final eight minutes.

One of them will be talked about for years to come.

Substitute Henrikh Mkhitaryan came on and made a stunning impact, setting up Zlatan Ibrahimovic to make it 2-0 before scoring with an outrageous and acrobatic back heel that could well win 'Goal of the Season'.

He was off-side as it happens, but no-one inside Old Trafford seems to care about this irrelevant fact.

United have now stretched their unbeaten run to 11 games, while the Black Cats remain in the relegation zone following a third defeat in the last four outings.

United are very much on top and piling on the pressure to get the second goal to kill off Sunderland who are fighting for every ball and putting bodies on the line. Kone even took out a ball boy as he slipped over the touchline.

Ibrahimovic should have done better when put through by Mata but he lifted his shot over the bar. He’s also had a close range shot blocked by Pickford, Pogba headed over and Mkhitaryan, on for Lingard, curled a shot wide.

Sunderland have weathered the storm for now and are still looking dangerous on the break and from set-pieces. Mourinho is pacing anxiously around his technical area.

Sunderland's commendably vociferous fans are paying their tribute to George Michael by launching into a rendition of his hit "Last Christmas."

Mourinho has sent on Martial for Mata in the hope the French youngster can find the goal Untied need to ease their worries of being hit by a late equaliser.

If anyone can breach the Baggies, Alexis Sanchez can. He seems to have as much spirit and energy as the rest of the Arsenal team put together.

West Brom keeper Ben Foster proved his worth in the 50th minute with a double save from Alex Iwobi and then Sanchez as he followed up. From the resulting corner, the ball broke to Sanchez and he fired against the outside of Foster’s left post.

Then in the 56th minute, the Chilean took a touch from Iwobi’s driven ball in and blasted a drive which Foster tipped over.

United are ahead at half-time but have had to work very hard for their lead.

And the goal came from an unexpected source - Daley Blind.

The Dutchman's first of the season was a well-taken effort at the end of a good build-up.

Rojo moved forward onto Herrera's pass before finding Ibrahimovic in the box. He held the ball up before setting up Blind who took a touch before burying a left foot shot beyond Pickford's reach and into the far corner of the net. It's Blind's fifth goal for the club in his 104th appearance.

Pogba is shining again and looks desperate for a goal - he's had four attempts on goal already - two saved by Pickford, one hit the post and the other was off target.

United finished the half on top with Pickford saving from Mata's free-kick but Sunderland will be encouraged by their upbeat performance so far.

Arsenal go into the break with just one real chance to show for all their possession and dominance - a 33rd run and shot from Alexis Sanchez - who else? - which was beaten away by Ben Foster.

They are playing okay, but a spark appears to be missing and, of course, they are always in danger of being caught through a Baggies breakaway.

He has showed some nice touches, but this is a game - if you are an Arsenal fan - where you want to see Mesut Ozil produce a bit of magic.

In an entertaining game, Sunderland are giving a good account of themselves and David Moyes will be delighted with them so far.

It’s not just backs against the wall stuff either. They are having a right go and looking dangerous.

De Gea had to make a flying save to stop Van Aanholt’s free-kick giving the Mackems the lead and has just made a double stop from Anichebe – who is causing Untied problems – and Borini.

United are stringing together some sharp passing moves themselves though. Pickford made an early save to keep out Pogba’s shot from a tight angle. Pogba is looking good again and his deflected shot hit the outside of the post.

United should have had a penalty when Kone bundled over Mata as he chased Valencia’s pass into the area. He made no attempt to play the ball but referee Atkinson dismissed United’s appeals.

After four wins in seven games, Sunderland are looking confident. Borini has just forced another save out of De Gea. Looking like United are going to have work very hard to get the win they need to keep in touch with the top four.

David Moyes returns to Old Trafford for the first time since being sacked by the club in 2014 following just 10 miserable months in charge.

Moyes was the first person off the Sunderland team bus, which parked so close to the players' entrance that the Scot was able to duck inside and head to the dressing room before waiting United fans had the chance to give him some stick.

It could be a long and difficult afternoon for Moyes.

Wayne Rooney is the most notable absentee for United which means his wait for the goal he needs to equal Sir Bobby Charlton's club record 249 haul stays on hold.

After starting against West Brom, he is not even on the bench today but sources close to the player say he suffered a slight tweak of his hamstring in training.

But the injury is not considered too serious and Rooney expects to be fit for Saturday's home game against Middlesbrough. The United captain is at Old Trafford today with his family to support the team as they bid for a fifth successive win.

Juan Mata comes in for Rooney and the only other change is at left back where Daley Blind replaces Matteo Darmian.

The big surprise at Chelsea is that £33m striker Michy Batshuayi is only on the bench, despite Diego Costa being out through suspension.

Antonio Conte suggested before Christmas that the Belgian is still getting used to life in the Premier League.

But if he doesn't start games like this, when will he? Batshuayi will surely be wondering if he has a future at Chelsea.

With N'Golo Kante also banned, Cesc Fabregas starts in midfield. But it's Costa they will miss most - Chelsea have only won one of their last 11 league games without him.

No Nathan Ake in the Bournemouth team as he can't play against his parent club, and Callum Wilson is only on the bench.
