Arsene Wenger today gave Arsenal fans a big boost by announcing that Danny Welbeck is due back in training next week. The forward has been out of action since picking up an injury way back in May (via Arsenal.com).
The Arsenal injury list is lengthy but it seems that the majority of players had a return date planned. Per Mertesacker, Shkodran Mustafi and Mathieu Debuchy are all due back in January, while Santi Cazorla should return the following month. Well, not it seems that another injured player’s return to action will come as early as next week.
Arsene Wenger said in his pre-match press conference that Danny Welbeck will return to training for the Gunners next week. Welbeck picked up a knee injury in a match against, coincidentally, Manchester City in May. The former-United forward had only just returned from another injury setback and hopefully, the same thing won’t happen again.
“Danny Welbeck is one week away from full training,” Wenger said in his pre-match press conference. “But of course it will take some time [for him to be fully fit] because he hasn’t played for a long, long time.”
The 26-year-old has averaged under a goal every four matches for the Gunners but hasn’t spent anywhere near as much time on the pitch as he would’ve liked. Injuries have really hindered his role in the team and restricted Welbeck to just 36 appearances in the two-and-a-half seasons he has spent at the Emireates. Hopefully the England man will fully recover from this latest injury setback and play a crucial role this season.
