Emmanuel Petit has revealed he thinks the current Arsenal team are lacking a true top-class striker who can score 40 goals a season for the Gunners.
Arsene Wenger’s side moved level on points at the top of the Premier League after a 3-2 win over Swansea City on Saturday thanks to goals from Theo Walcott and Mesut Ozil.
Walcott’s double means he is now the club’s top scorer with seven goals in all competitions with Alexis Sanchez just behind with five goals.
However, Petit feels that despite the current form of the duo the Gunners need to invest in a true world class talent up front if they are to win the Premier League.
“Even though I love Arsenal and Arsene, I try to stay objective,” Petit told SFR Sport. “They never quite satisfy me, and they often frustrate me.
“As long as Arsenal don’t have a striker who scores 40 goals a season like Aguero does at Manchester City … That’s what you need in any league: a striker who is one of the best in the world.”

Olivier Giroud was Arsenal’s top scorer last season scoring 24 in all competitions, followed closely behind by Sanchez with 17 although there was a big gap then to Walcott with nine. In the Premier League Chelsea striker Diego Costa currently leads the way with seven goals followed by Romelu Lukaku on six.
While it is difficult to argue with Petit’s comments, Arsenal’s current form proves they can mount a serious title challenge with their current squad although keeping both Walcott and Sanchez fit and firing will be crucial.
