In-form winger Theo Walcott is currently at the heart of scoring goals for Arsenal and wants to take his career goal tally to 100 for the club this season.
Scoring twice in the 3-2 victory over Swansea and almost earning a hat-trick, Walcott is enjoying his current form.
“I am happy with the goals,” the England international told Arsenal’s official website.
“I’m happy with the general play and defensive play as well, perhaps even more than the forward part of my game.
“I already know how well I can go forward, but there’s also other bits to do and I’ve been doing that this season.”
With a total of seven goals in the nine games he has started for the club in all competitions, Walcott believes he can continue to score more. Being eight goals short of a century, the Englishman hasn’t ruled out the possibility of reaching the 100th career goal mark this season.
“It would be nice, obviously,” commented the 27-year-old.
“It’s a long season ahead. I’d be very disappointed if I don’t make that but then again I’d rather the team performs and we win something rather than a personal goal.
“That’s my main goal. If I try to do my best for this team hopefully the team can benefit.
“I’m looking too far ahead here which I don’t like to do but there’s some good signs already.”
Walcott’s career has so far been marred by injuries, however last season in particular he struggled to hold down a place in the team which also led to the Englishman missing out on Euro 2016 held in the summer.
The winger trained hard and credits his pre-season workout for his new found confidence.
“I think it’s the biggest step forward I’ve taken this season,” Walcott added.
“It’s the biggest piece of energy which I’ve never had before. I don’t know what that is, but I’ve been working really hard on that, in the summer and with a personal trainer – all little things which add up.
“It seems to be going well at this moment in time and I’m enjoying playing football.”
Spending ten years at Arsenal, Walcott is finally playing at the peak of his career. Although it is hoped there’s still a lot more to come from the forward especially on a consistent basis.
