Ex-Chelsea Player Believes Cech Is Premier League’s Best Goalkeeper

Mark Schwarzer has heaped praise on his former teammate Petr Cech claiming he is the best in the Premier League.

Former goalkeeper Schwarzer, now pundit on Match of the Day was Cech’s understudy at Chelsea for two years until the latter made a controversial move to Arsenal. The 34-year-old came to the Emirates in 2015 for a fee of £11 million and took no time in becoming Wenger’s first choice.

Since then the stopper has earned the record for the most clean sheets ever in the history of the Premier League while making many spectacular saves for the Gunners.

One of those key performances came against Boro on Saturday which led to Schwarzer calling him the best in England.

“For me, Petr Cech is the best goalkeeper in the Premier League and probably has been for the last few years,” he told Match of the Day.

“I’ve had the privilege to work with him, I class him as a good mate and he’s an incredible professional.

“He stands big and he really kept Arsenal in the match which was quite strange considering nobody gave Middlesbrough a chance.”

Gunners manager Arsene Wenger also claimed he has the world’s two top-class goal stoppers despite ending up with a disappointing draw.

“We could have lost the game in the first half,” said the Frenchman according to ITV News.

“This week I must say our two goalkeepers had two great performances, Ospina on Wednesday night and now Petr Cech.

“That shows you how important it is to have two top-class goalkeepers.”

The Czech international has made an incredible 27 saves in the nine Premier League games so far and has four clean sheets to his name, while Ospina has so far impressed in the Champions League justifying his selection over Cech in the tournament.

With continued strong performances from both the keepers, it can be said that the Gunners are very dependable hands between the sticks.
