Arsenal launch £20m bid for Man United target

Arsenal have apparently launched a £20m bid for Borussia Dortmund’s Henrikh Mkhitaryan, but the Armenian international would prefer a move to Manchester United, according to an exclusive report from Squawka.

The Dortmund star has been heavily tipped to head for the exit this summer, with just a year left on his current contract. Dortmund need to either sell him now or risk losing him for free next summer, and if the fee is right it seems likely that he’ll be allowed to leave.

The 27-year-old doesn’t look likely to end up at Arsenal though, as his agent claims he’d prefer a move to Manchester United. There’s no news on whether our £20m bid has been accepted, but if he has his heart set on Old Trafford then it will probably make little difference.

“Manchester United is a unique opportunity. Micki want to go there. Micki has for months maintained that he may leave the club this summer,” his agent Mino Raiola said.

All that said though, Squawka claim Arsenal are the only club to have made an official offer, despite various other reports suggesting Man United have already seen a £19m bid turned down (via the Mirror).

If it’s true that we’re the only ones who have lodged a bid, then it’s certainly still possible that we could land the prolific midfielder. As long as United don’t have a bid accepted, we’ve obviously got no competition.

This could all just be Riaola looking to force more money out of us; hoping to improve the personal terms for his client and bolster his fee at the same time.

We won’t know until we get something a little more concrete, so we’ll just have to wait and see what the future holds for Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
