Arsenal's Pires talks Wenger’s England link and reveals he speaks to boss every morning

ROBERT PIRES believes Arsene Wenger wouldn’t suit England - as he knows the Arsenal manager’s attitude very well.

The Gunners legend is now a youth coach at the Emirates, having returned to the club following his retirement from playing.

Speaking at Stamford Bridge at the launch of the Star Sixes indoor football tournament yesterday, Pires revealed he talks to Wenger ‘every morning’.

The two are in close contact, but discussions focus on Arsenal and not his England link.

However, the 42-year-old’s experience of working under and alongside the Frenchman tells him England would not match his football needs.

“I know him, he wants to go to the pitch every morning,” Pires said.

“This is the most important [thing for him]. If he takes the England job, it’s not the same.

“So, for the moment I cannot imagine Wenger work for England. This is my opinion.

“I see Arsene. He loves being on the pitch every morning. This is like an obsession, it’s a passion.

“You know managing the national team is not really the same because he loves football.”

Wenger has been asked about becoming England’s new manager following the sudden exit of Sam Allarydce.

And the Premier League veteran hinted he would be open to the role after his Gunners career finishes.

The 66-year-old has just celebrated 20 years in charge of Arsenal, and his contract currently expires at the end of the campaign.

But Pires insists the lack of day-to-day work involved at international level is not for Wenger.
