Wenger Considering Resting Key Man Against Swansea

Arsene Wenger is considering resting Alexis Sanchez for Saturday’s clash against Swansea following his exploits with Chile, according to Terra.

Sanchez has been away on international duty with Chile playing 90 minutes in their 3-0 defeat to Ecuador before featuring for the whole game against Peru on Wednesday night.

Two goals from Arturo Vidal gave Chile victory against Peru, with Sanchez then flying back to London and taking to Instagram to reveal his pleasure in coming “home” to the Gunners.

The Chilean is Arsenal’s top scorer this season with five goals already, having been moved to a central role, and has made nine appearances in all competitions for the Gunners already this season.

The report claims that Wenger is contemplating giving his star man a break to recover from his recent exploits and also to keep him fresh ahead of a busy schedule with the Gunners having seven games in three weeks before the next international break.

Following Saturday’s visit from Swansea, Arsenal welcome Ludogorets in the Champions League on Wednesday before a Premier League clash with Middlesbrough.

The Gunners also have an EFL Cup fourth round clash on 25th October before trips to Sunderland, Ludogorets and the north London derby on November 6.

Sanchez has been in great form for Arsenal, beginning the season in stunning style and it would undoubtedly be a blow if he were to miss out on Saturday.

However, there seems little doubt Sanchez may well be in need of a break, and Wenger did also rest him after the last international break for the game against Southampton.

Although Olivier Giroud is not fit the Gunners are not lacking in options up front with Lucas Perez fit again and probably relishing the thought of taking on a side who have conceded 12 goals in their first seven games.
