Who does the super-computer predict will win the Premier League?

The University of Salford have developed SAM (Sports Analytics Machine) to predict the outcome of sporting events.

Developed by Professor Ian McHale and Tarak Kharrat, SAM has predicted the outcome of the Premier League season based on a whole range of different factors.

"Only a couple of points separates Manchester City [winners] and Chelsea [2nd] at the top of SAM's final table," said Professor McHale.

"Arsenal and Liverpool are about four or five points behind the top four.

"Of course, this all has a few assumptions - the starting XIs remain constant throughout the season (no major injuries to a team's top players) and none of the teams buy any more superstars!

"Burnley getting Messi would make a difference!"

There have been teething problems in the last few weeks: the defence isn’t great and the goalkeeper still has questions to answer.

But the attack is dynamite and the system is getting the best out of David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne.

Wouldn't it be a fairytale end to one of the Premier League's best foreign exports to finish on a high?

Rumours are circulating Arsene Wenger could call it a day at the end of the season and his Arsenal side haven't looked as convincing title contenders since their last trophy in 2004.

Traditionally strong finishers, they could push Manchester City all the way.

Sports galleries journalist Benjamin Pringle - Manchester City

City have enough to get the job done. Aguero and De Bruyne are a class above and the squad has the necessary experience for a high-pressure run-in.

Arsenal will push them close but their lack of out-and-out strikers will tell, while key injuries for Liverpool and Spurs will derail their bids.

What are the odds on the Premier League winner?

Manchester City - 6/5

Liverpool - 9/2

Arsenal - 11/2

Tottenham - 11/1

Chelsea -12/1

Manchester United - 14/1
