Arsenal legend shocked by Vardy revelation

Thierry Henry is mystified by Jamie Vardy’s apparent decision to turn down a move to Arsenal, with the club legend not understanding how a switch from Leicester to Arsenal could possibly not appeal to anyone, as reported by the BBC.

Vardy looked close to making the switch to Arsenal last weekend, but with no confirmation of the move it seems like he may have had a change of heart. We won’t know for sure until after the Euros when we get something a little more concrete, but Henry certainly seems to believe the 29-year-old is making a mistake.

“All I can say is if I was playing for Leicester and I had Arsenal coming, and I’m 29, I would have gone. But I’m not Jamie Vardy,” Henry said.

“Either he has another proposition on the table, or Arsenal doesn’t seem attractive to him anymore.”

While there’s obviously going to be a bit of bias on Thierry Henry’s part, it’s hard to disagree with him. While Leicester are obviously the current Premier League champions and undoubtedly had a superb season, they are unlikely to even come close to replicating that form next season.

Arsenal, meanwhile, are still one of the biggest clubs in the world, and you’d expect us to be a lot more likely to be challenging for the title next season.

There are many Arsenal fans who thought Vardy wasn’t the right player for us anyway, so as far as they’re concerned his decision will be a blessing in disguise.

We unquestionably need a striker signing this summer though, and if Vardy isn’t going to be the one to arrive then Arsene Wenger needs to make sure he has other targets identified.
