Spanish newspaper El Confidencial has revealed that Arsenal made a massive €60 million bid for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang earlier this year. The bid was made in January but Dortmund wanted upwards of €100 million for their star man (via El Confidencial).

Arsenal haven’t been short of goals this season but they could have had a few more. Reports in Spain claim that Arsene Wenger lodged a massive €60 million offer for Dortmund forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang earlier in the year. The bid was promptly rejected after the German club wanted almost double for the 27-year-old.

Aubameyang has developed into one the best strikers in the world in recent seasons. At Borussia Dortmund he has gone from an important squad player to the star man and the only person not called Robert Lewandowski to get more than 20 Bundesliga goals last season. The Gabon striker got 25 in 31 matches last term and has five in just four league matches already this year.

El Confidencial is the source behind the bid and the Spanish outlet also reports that Arsenal had some competition for the player. Real Madrid were also reportedly keen to sign either Aubameyang or fellow Bundesliga star Robert Lewandowski.

It’s good news that Arsenal are interested in signing the truly elite players in __football today. It’s a massive show of ambition that the club are willing to make one of the biggest bids in __football history for a player but it is a huge shame that we didn’t get a chance to see Aubameyang at the Emirates.
