Ex Liverpool keeper says Wojciech Szczesny must quit Arsenal

Former Poland international and Liverpool goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek has said that compatriot Wojciech Szczesny must quit Arsenal after being replaced by David Ospina.

Szczesny has only played once in the Premier League this year after a horror-show against Southampton on New Year’s Day – after which he was caught smoking in the showers.

Arsene Wenger has seemingly replaced him with summer signing Ospina and the Pole has had to contend with just a starting role in Arsenal’s FA Cup run – though he has helped us get to the semi-finals and a guaranteed trip to Wembley.

“It’s a serious matter,” the  quote Dudek as saying.

“If I were in his place, I would wonder whether there are still opportunities to arise at Arsenal and wouldn’t wait as long as Fabianski, because you can see that Arsene Wenger is firmly set on David Ospina.

“Fortunately, [Poland] have two other goalkeepers who are able to provide an adequate level in our goal.”

Whilst Szczesny might be in the doldrums because he’s lost his starting role, he only has himself to blame and it’s not the fault of Arsene Wenger or Ospina that he decided to act so disrespectfully after the 2-0 defeat to Southampton.

However, it’s quite entertaining to hear Dudek of all people saying if he were in the place of Szczesny he would likely quit, given his last two seasons at Liverpool – and his entire Real Madrid career – were spent essentially as an expensive bench buffer.
