Chelsea’s Petr Cech lined up to replace Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny

Arsenal are looking at a potential move for Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech if Wojciech Szczesny decides to quit the club this summer.

The reports that the Polish shot stopper has become incredibly frustrated at his lack of game time this season – the result of a poor display against Southampton on New Year’s Day after which he was caught smoking in the showers.

The paper claims Szczesny now wants showdown talks with the club to determine whether he will reclaim the number one spot or whether he needs to begin searching for a new club to guarantee regular football.

Since his smoking faux pas he has played just three times for Arsenal, with all appearances coming in the FA Cup whilst summer-signing David Ospina has taken over first team duties.

Wenger still holds reservations over Szczesny’s long-term suitability to the no. 1 role, according to the Standard, and will not guarantee him continual first-team football next season either.

Therefore if he no longer wishes to remain at Arsenal and the club agree, the reports says he will be allowed to leave, which will cause the club to seriously investigate the possibility of signing Petr Cech.

As the Standard points out, it still remains an unlikely possibility Jose Mourinho would agree to sell his former first-choice shot stopped Arsenal – and Arsene Wenger particularly – the club believe Chelsea’s respect for Cech could sway them to sell to a rival if it is what he wishes.
