Mesut Özil was absent from our hard fought 2-1 win over Newcastle United, but tweeted his support after the game, and is hoping to return from illness quickly.
It was already suspected that the German playmaker might be rested for our trip to St James’ Park, and he certainly wasn’t expected to start.
His absence in the end was enforced however, and hopefully he will soon return to action following his illness.

Our win over Newcastle is the last game before the international break, so it wouldn’t be the worst thing for the World Cup winner to take a little longer to recover. He could do with a rest, so being held back from international duty could prove a huge boost for us.
