Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger contradicts Theo Walcott regarding contract talks

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has contradicted claims from Theo Walcott (via his ) this week that contract talks between himself and the club hadn’t even begun.

Walcott informed his 801,000 followers that reports of a bust-up with Wenger were not true and that, more importantly, talks to extend his contract haven’t even taken place.

With just over 12 months left on his current contract, one would imagine that an extension for the 26-year-old would be top of the club’s priority – and according to Wenger it is.

“We start to negotiate with Theo to extend his contract,” Wenger told beIN Sports (via ).

“Personally, I would like to keep him.”

Given the drawn-out process Walcott’s last contract negotiations became, it seems as though both parties are set for another saga which is infuriating for the fans.

The club does have the upper hand this time though, financial power and the ability to buy quality replacements is an option for Wenger with recent reports suggesting that a move for Marco Reus is on the cards (via ) – a clear upgrade on Walcott.

Walcott has scored two goals in eight Premier League games this season. His best scoring figures for us were recorded in the 2012-13 campaign, when he notched 14 times in 32 league matches.
